I feel unappreciated and compared at work - need help

Hello everyone,

I need some help with my work situation.

I work somewhere and my supervisor is very hard on me. I always try my best and work hard, but he never sees it. He is always complaining about my work and comparing me to another colleague. He always says "she is good at this and that" and it makes me feel like I am not good enough.

Three days ago, he sent me to learn something for HR. I was there for only 3 days. Yesterday he told me to go back to my desk and said I have learned enough, but I haven't. I still need more time to learn properly. Then I heard him telling someone that the manager asked if they want to take back someone and he will choose.

Now I feel stressed and scared that I might lose my opportunity. I feel like he says I am doing nothing even when I am working hard.

Has anyone experienced this kind of work pressure or a difficult supervisor? How did you handle it? How can I protect myself and still do my job well?

I'm sorry you are being made to feel unappreciated.

Sometimes managers had different styles that are not always suitable to all people.

All you can keep doing is your best, learning and not slowing yourself or them to compare you to anyone 💛

Rooting for you 🩵

I am sorry you are experiencing this. Your stress and fear are valid feelings to have. Supervisors who do not seem to understand and/or listen can be very frustrating, and I have had many myself. Doing your best is all that matters, and I hope that your supervisor can recognize the effort that you make.

I am going through the same thing at work. Sometimes on your path you may find that work is not your purpose in life, that you are just there to make money until you find out your true purpose and true path. I am heavily looking into ways to make money on my own terms, I suggest you may look into the same. Much love and light ✝️

As someone who is neurodivergent, I can recognize another. I have to tell myself daily that I AM enough. I've struggled with self-worth for a long time. But I promise, you're better than you think you are. We are our own toughest judges. Give yourself a break every once in a while.

@amiableHuman2984 Hello, I’m sorry to hear what you’re going through. I truly empathize with your situation.

Over my 24-year professional career, I have worked with bosses and supervisors who were difficult, unstable, or unsupportive, so I understand how draining that can be.

Try not to push yourself too hard. Do your best, stay consistent, and let things settle over time. Whether your supervisor appreciates your efforts or not, someone is always watching us, and HE will never let our hard work and dedication go unnoticed.

If anyone compares you to someone else, remember that every person is different. No two people are exactly alike, not even twins or triplets. Comparing employees is like comparing a bird to a fish; each has different strengths, abilities, and ways of working.

A poor manager or supervisor is often dissatisfied and may project their own failures onto their juniors. If an employee is not progressing or performing well, it is not always the employee’s failure; it may also reflect a manager’s inability to guide, train, and support them properly.

Lastly, I would suggest two things:

  1. Document everything you do at work. Send your supervisor a daily email listing the tasks you completed, the tasks pending for the next day, and approximate completion timelines.

  2. Start looking for another opportunity, even if it pays a little less. Nothing is more important than your peace of mind.

I hope this helps you deal with your situation. If you still need to discuss it further, feel free to message me.
