What about Turkey or Ham, with Mashed Potatoes and gravy, and stuffing maybe cranberry sauce. Every family adapted their holiday meals, but in general around certain major holidays we have this tradition.  (I love mashed potatoes and I am going to try a mushroom gravy to adapt to my vegetarian and health preferences)

I usually try to make a similar multi dish meal on Sundays in my home as I don’t always have time to cook a lot during the week.

I put together some veggie chili in the slow cooker this morning.  I’m not sure if I should have bread or rice with it, but I’m wanting some bread after seeing the breads in other food posts.  I’m not sure if this is American or not, but this is my husband’s favorite.  Sometimes I make extra and freeze it.

@reservedOwl321 You definitely need some bread 😉 Especially with the broth. Looks good! It has zucchini in it?

@mytwistedsoul yes it has zucchini I guess for the texture. I think it has about 20 ingredients. I usually follow a recipe, but this time we deviated from the recipe a little bit because of what I already had on hand. I'm trying to clean out the pantry.

@reservedOwl321 20 ingredients whoa! 😳 Deviating from recipes can sometimes make them more interesting.

GARLIC BREAD hehe

@jesusredeemedme2425 My go to is called “French bread”.  It was the best one we have tried, so I just stick with it.  I would try to make sourdough, but i don’t have the persistence to feed the sourdough every day.

How does one feed the sourdough again? I forgot.

Well I have never done it, so maybe I'm even saying that wrong all together. My understanding is that you have to make bread everyday or so and set some aside for the next batch or share with somebody who has sourdough starter already.

I looked it up and it looks like you have to add a specific amount of flour and you may have to throw out some of the previous starter. Maybe there is a more seasoned chef around here who can explain better.

I wanted to add that there are chili cook-offs in the US. It is a small informal competition as there are a lot of competitive chili Cooks out there. Mine has been entered a couple times, but has not won.

@jesusredeemedme2425 Woww!! so many delicious food 😋💛 For me it would be Jambalaya made with rice, vegetables, and many different types of seasonings. Meat can be added as well. I didn't like much meat included food so just savory dish with veggies and rice and spices 💖💖💖 My friend used to cook for me more like a treat while I was in the US 😁

Y'ALL. If you NEVER have any other American food, you MUST try this! I prefer it as Coke/Pepsi and vanilla ice cream, but you can mix and match and experiment. It's just soda and ice cream <3

Pop Rocks, the carbonated popping candy, was accidentally invented by chemist William A. Mitchell while working for the General Foods Corporation in 1956. While trying to develop an instant carbonated soda, he created the popular treat by mixing sugar, lactose, corn syrup, dye and artificial flavoring. The ingredients are heated, allowed to melt, and then carbonized. Bubbles form as the mixture is cooled. As you eat the candy, the bubbles burst, creating the signature popping sensation.

Hey, I have a dumb question. Sorry it's unrelated, but when you heart a post multiple times does it actually do anything? It says it doesn't, I just wasn't sure how that works exactly.

@mytwistedsoul I have a suggestion for the site.  @Amanda84 too maybe in the future one day we could separate a thumbs up sign or a cups sign or a star. I’m not sure don’t know much about symbolism and how that might or might not cross cultural bounds on the site but…. Again sorry for the “thread hijack”!

Banana splits

pan-fried-banana-splits-1_1787973016.jpg

images-2_1787973007.jpeg

What's the easiest way to make a banana split? Slice it in half. (You're welcome.) While dads brought us that cool joke, David Evans Strickler, a soda jerk in Pennsylvania, created the banana split back in 1904. He just wanted to attract more customers to the soda fountain counter at Tassell Pharmacy. And, he low-key came up with one of the most iconic American dishes, ever. No big deal.

He cut a banana lengthwise and topped it with one scoop each of chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla ice cream, and added chocolate, pineapple, strawberry syrups, nuts, whipped cream, and a bright red cherry. (Hey, so, don't tell Wilmington, Delaware locals about this because they claim they invented the banana split in 1907 and we just want everyone to have fun.)

The old-fashioned feel just adds to the fun. Sample something close to the original at the old-school-styled Franklin Fountain in Old City, Philadelphia, where you can grab Dr. Dovey's Banana Split for a cool $20. This type of sundae cost just 10 cents back in 1904, but, hey, who's counting?

American chop suey is an American pasta casserole made with ground beef, macaroni and a seasoned tomato sauce, found in the cuisine of New England and other regions of the United States. Outside New England, it is sometimes called American goulash or Johnny Marzetti, among other names.
