My greedy self notes the absence of black pudding, hash browns, brown Windsor's (aka french toast, sans cinnamon and sugar), and scotch potato cakes in the photo.

If you NEVER have any other English food, you MUST have Flake! It's English chocolate. It looks odd, but it's soooo flaky and the taste is melt-in-your-mouth delightfulness <3 You can find it sometimes in stores in the US <3

A base layer of sponge cake (some use lady fingers instead) soaked in a little sweet sherry. On top of that is a medley of fruits (I tend to use strawberries, blackberries, and raspberries, but everyone has their own recipe). Then usually is a layer of fruit jelly to hold the fruit in suspension. (I however go for two layers of jelly...a tangy jelly mixed with zesty yogurt (normally lime jelly with lemon yogurt) followed by a clear layer of raspberry/strawberry/or cherry jelly. Then a layer of cold set vanilla custard. Then top it all with lashings of whipped cream, decorated with hundreds and thousands (which are not visible in the photo, alas).
To my American friends:
Hundreds and thousands are what we call sprinkles. Hehe
