Turning Over a New Leaf: North America to Europe!

Good afternoon, it's Imp.

I have a few questions for you guys!

  • Q1) Are there other North American expats that moved to Europe? Or any Europeans that can give advice in moving to that continent and have visited North America? (Just curious what culture shocks you guys have experienced...)
  • Q2) Have any of you guys suddenly got up and moved out of the continent spontaneously, or was it planned?
  • Q3) Why did you leave your originally country?
  • Q4) What do you like/dislike about the country you moved to or currently reside in?

I'm currently in North America, trying to move to Europe to be with family and to start over a new leaf... I'm also a single parent with a toddler(the other parent is not in the picture), and I want the little one to have more opportunities and be safe. The area I live in, it's not very safe and I also don't have anyone here...

In Europe, I have family in France & Spain. I am unsure if some still remain in Portugal or Germany.
I speak Spanish & English, and I can understand Portuguese but my French is...quite bad to be honest I need to practice.

In North America, my family is in Mexico, USA, and Canada. They're everywhere here too but...
To be honest, I come from a dysfunctional/broken home where physical & verbal abuse was prevalent, that I want to escape this continent and leave... I am no longer close to any of my family here.

I'm working on getting a Holiday Work Visa to leave and have done some research on it however...
I have to hold off a bit until I get my tax money, as a certain dollar amount must be shown in the bank...My ex-fiancé's greedy sister illegally claimed my little one on her taxes, so I have to wait a bit longer.

My situation is not so good here at the moment and it's a long story.
But long story short, I work a part-time remote job, but homeless and currently renting Airbnbs...so...might as well leave once I do receive my 6000USD...hopefully this month.

Thanks for reading!

@ImpudentIncognito

Sounds like you have all good reasons to do it. It won't be easy I'm sure. Remember it's for your kids benefit. I wish you strength.

@LostTurtle2 My current situation has improved now. I am currently staying at a business couple's guest house. Their son is the same age as mine, and they seem to be getting along well. I can now save money to move out of North America. They also empathized a lot with my situation and are helping me with budgeting. They're kind of like the parents I never had...Despite only being a decade older than me, haha. So maybe more like having amazing older siblings or older cousins that I look up to.

I grew up in a dysfunctional family, where my parents were physically & verbally abusive, and my (undiagnosed) NPD mother SA me...

I feel better now, but my heart is still set on moving out of this continent.
I want to be far away from my dysfunctional family, abusive ex-fiancé, and start a new life...

Thank you for your kind words by the way.
