Byelingual [ pun ]
"When you speak 2 languages ( or more ) in your daily life, but start losing vocabulary in all of them."

Everyone who comes from mixed backgrounds, or talks more than one language in their daily life can relate to this situation. To understand this better, let's make some scenarios where you speak English outside your house and French inside your house.

One day, your mom tells you to buy something in French. You go to the store, and when you're at the store, you can't find that particular thing, so you decide to ask a worker about it:

"Hey there do you know where... uhm"

Boom! Your mind goes blank. You know the word in French but not in English.
And then you're thinking so hard what that word is in English. All while the worker looks at you weirdly and is still waiting for you to continue the question...
Yeah not embarrassing at all, haha! And then after a long time, you remember that word.

"Aha! That was the word. I knew it! How could I forget that?"

Sometimes, a language also has a word that doesn't exist in the other language.
Then, one day, your friends comes to your house, hears you talking to your mom in French, and asks what that particular word means. You want to tel her but all you can think of is: How do I explain this in English? And your mind just goes b l a n k.

But the most common thing people do experience, is using more than 1 language in 1 sentence. Or in other words, replacing the word you don't know in English to French because you only know what the word in French is.

"Oui! Je suis very bien! Thankyou" (Yes, I am very well, thankyou")

Now the question is, why does this happen though?
Well, as we speak more than 1 language on daily basis, we tend to hear that one word more in that language than the other.

For example is you will hear the word "homework" more often then you do at home. One day, when you're doing your homework, your mom check ups on you and asks you what you are doing. Your mind will answer automatically in French
because you always speak French to her,
"Je fais mes homework!" is what you tell her. Your mind went blank on that one word, but to save time and to reply fast, you just replace the word in the language you know.

Makes sense doesn't it?
