Really appreciate talking about it ! This was much needed .

1- There are many stigmas about mental health in my environment , few of them being-
a) People with mental illnesses should not be given any responsibility.
b) One of the main causes of mental illness is lack of self-discipline and willpower.
c) Mentally unhealthy people should have their own groups—healthy people need not be contaminated by them.

2- There are many things that people should know about mental health, few of them being
a) People who are not mentally healthy are NOT always violent (common misconception).
b) It's not the person's fault for what they are going through.
c) Someone with mental health issues is not a liability or a weakness , we just need love and compassion and time to deal with our own "situations" and it would be really helpful if more and more people were ëducated on such topics :) So they could be a part of our lives and effect it in positive ways !

That people with mental illnesses are crazy or weak.

People should know that the above is wrong, and that mentally ill people are actually strong to persevere through their illness. There are days where I just want to not do anything, but I have to do things, so I do them.

@DinaElwy I wish people were aware about the facts regarding MH and not just their impressions. I wish people would educate before judging

1. What is the stigma associated with mental health in your culture?

Unfortunately mental health in my culture is seen as a sickness or disorder where one is considered to be "crazy". Most times I've noticed that persons in the black community do not even recognize mental health issues for what they are in fear of the negative stigma that is placed around them.

2. What do you wish people knew about mental health?

I wish that persons would realize that there is nothing wrong with acceping mental health issues and calling them for what they are instead of false labels like "it's just a phase". Accepting is the only way they can be treated, and having support from members of your community goes a long way.

People believe going to a counselor/psychologist is okay only when you are suffering from something very severe, like they generally like saying that the person has gone mad, you should see a psychologist. The most common stereotype around mental health is no one actually like believing in mental health issues, they just like posting about it. And only the higher community people are aware about the problems, the people who have no educational background or no access to the world, they believe people are possessed, and then they should be "treated".
