A very Canadian problem is lack of jobs, most people who grew up in the Canadian education system, can't find a job as Canadian employers are favoring immigrants. Most people have moved to European countries so they can be employed, thus erroding social connections. Canadians care about everyone else but themselves.

i was forced to start my career in isolated northern Alberta... which landed me on this app because my mental health slowly deteriorated being so far away from family and friends. Pretty brutal if you ask me if you cant stay close to home and find a job. No wonder so many Canadians have mental health issues.

Sorry for that. I understand the destruction our economy is having on social networks and how they are causing mental health issues. It's just the generation before us, is fixed on greed. They won't retire, will only give out contracts so they can save on giving out benefits packages and they prefer immigrant workers over new Canadian grads as they don't have to teach them how to do the work (teaching takes time and that cuts into profit margins). Greed. Pure Greed.
Although I was one of the lucky few to start out my career close to home. I think I was the ONLY one that was fortunate. All the rest of my friends and cousins ended up moving out of the country to finds jobs. I was also left alone. That's also when I almost ended my life, thank goodness for the hospital and their out patient care team, along with my parents and a supportive boss, who stayed by me for support over the next 3 years. It's been 4 years now and still haven't recovered a social network since that destruction. It's difficult to make friends when on contract, forced to spend tonnes of time looking for the next job, and leaving behind the half formed friendships when I find the next job. I guess my friends are the hospital staff??

ah man, I know the feeling... Ive been to the ER many times for my panic attacks. Thank God for my gf... who is helping me get out of the isolation of northern Alberta. The money is good in Alberta... but whats the point if youre not happy? My plan is to move somewhere else in Canada and try and make a happier life for myself.. even if it means making less money. I hope it works out...

Yeah happiness is better than money any day. Wish you get out and start having a good life.

I live in Chilliwack which is a town about two hours-ish away from Vancouver. Very nice and beautiful place but kind of boring in my opinion. Not so much because of the place itself but because of my situation being disabled with chronic pain and stuff (long story, former quadriplegic, I can walk now but I'm in constant pain due to nerve and muscular damage that probably won't ever fully recover). This is a great place to live if you're an outdoorsy type or raising a family, but for an unemployable crippled adult with no kids it's pretty dull. Still a lovely place for the most part, though.
