School Shooting in Seattle
The media is reporting that there has been a shooting at a high school in Seattle, Washington.
A New York Times article explains "A high school student opened fire in the cafeteria of a high school north of Seattle Friday, killing one person and critically injuring four others, according to law enforcement officials."
These types of situations are terrifying and very sad. Lets use this space to offer support for each other as we cope with this tragedy.

My good thoughts and prayersare definitely going out to the families, victims and all of those in the school community at Marysville.
I remember growing up in the era of the Columbine shooting, etc -- it was terrifying then and I can't imagine what it's like for students now. To all those who have anxieties, fears or stress about the idea of these things happening in schools nearby (or far) from you -- please know I am sending you my strength as well.
This is really sad, my heart goes out to the families and friends involved.
I was in a lockdown situation very recently, barricaded in a room with others not knowing what was happening for hours, except that someone was murdered and everything beyond our little space was "unsafe". I think that one thing that we have to be careful of is how the media will portray what really happens. I've heard that we've now become "terrorized", how life will never be the same, how there has been a loss of innocence. That is not what I've seen. There is a feeling of solemnity in the air,but not panic or fear. I've seen communities coming together to heal, support offered by strangers, families holding loved ones a little closer, and celebrations of the good that we are all capable of bringing. My thoughts are, that we cannot counter random acts of violence by being forever afraid, but we can show our defiance through demonstrating exactly the opposite - compassion and trust for each other.
If every school made it's children say 'I am happy because I am living' each morning since the earliest of grades, the world would be happier.
I go to school in Bellevue Washington, and not too long ago, there was a shooting threat at my high school. It was a rumor online, and we had a lock down for around 6 hours. It was awful. It sucks to live in a world where people resort to violence to solve their problems.
