September 11th
On 9/11, I'll mourn the nearly 3,000 lives lost, the over 6,000 injuries, the infrastructural carnage and devastation in NYC, and the humiliation of my country, all perpetrated ignorantly in the name of a religion.
And on 9/12, I'll mourn the nearly 1,000,000 lives, the 10's of millions of injuries, the infrastructural decimation in three countries, and the humiliation of a religion, all perpetrated ignorantly in the name of my country.
May we gain the intelligence and pause for guidance.

Watching some documentaries about it here in the UK and it gets to me every year. It's shown all over the world. I hate that terrorists are around and all in the name of one religion. It is such a shame and so sad.

I worked in Manhattan at the time. Before that, as a consultant, I've worked in the Twin Towers dozens . and dozens of times. No one was permitted to go into Manhattan on the 12th. I went in on the 13th to tender my resignation-- I have not been back since.
I look at all the things people living in free countries have given up out of fear. Many (25) years ago, I worked for the NSA. (I dealt with explaining Prime Number theory to amazing programmers and going over code.) The NSA was practically unheard of.
My personal belief is that extremists have won. We are forever looking over our shoulders. Racism and xenophobia are no longer ideas that people seem to be ashamed of; shame no longer seems to exist.
I guess I am naive. I believed that with the election, and re-election, of President Obama, would go down in history as the end of The Reconstruction (the time period after slavery, while racism was 'permissible').
The current sentiment towards one another, in my opinion, is the lowest in my lifetime.
