A very warm hello to you all!

I hope and wish you are doing very well.

"procrastinate"
"to keep delaying something that must be done, often because it is unpleasant or boring."
(Cambridge Dictionary)

This week's check-in questions are:

  • How have you been feeling these days?
  • Do you often delay indefinitely things you must do?

  • What kinds of things do you postpone the most?

  • What could you do to defeat procrastination and get things done?
  • How might this improve your life?

All questions are optional. You can add any comments you wish, as they come to your mind.

I look forward to your answers!

@HealingTalk Procrastinating is something I've been dealing with myself. I think we all are procrastinating more or less at times. Finding motivation is the best way to stop delaying things that are to be done. I currently try to find motivation through self-care and healthy living and it's working! Thank you for the inspiring post!

Hi, Dew!

Thank you for checking in!

You are right that procrastination is so widespread. We are millions and millions who struggle with this!

I am glad you have found a way to deal with it. That actually works!

Congratulations on that!

Taking care of ourselves, treating ourselves well, must be a great way to create the needed motivation. We might do things knowing that we will be treated well, not harshly.

On the contrary, punishing ourselves for failing at getting things done is counterproductive.

In fact, it might be a cause of procrastination in the first place, by promoting fear of failure.

As you say, self-care and self-love is the way to go.

Thank you very much for your contribution!

All the best!

See you soon...

Marcelo.

@HealingTalk

Hi, Marcelo,

  • How have you been feeling these days? I live in the path of where hurricane Ian passed over. So while that was happening, I was very scared. I'm more relaxed now, but on a different edge. I'm waiting to hear from grad school as to whether I was accepted or not. I'm also waiting to hear about the job in the library. The clock is ticking and I need a job. Do you often delay indefinitely things you must do? What kinds of things do you postpone the most?
  • Do you often delay indefinitely things you must do? No, I try not to, because the delay makes me feel awful.
  • What kinds of things do you postpone the most? Right now I have been putting off creative projects, because I have had too much tension in my life and too much mayhem to deal with almost daily.
  • What could you do to defeat procrastination and get things done? Push myself to do it. I know it would be a release for me.
  • How might this improve your life? It would give me a feeling of accomplishment.

A mini creative process might help the wait for news to go a little faster. I am so glad that the hurricane didn't hit you too hard. @purpleTree4652

@purpleTree4652 Hi!

How scary that you were in the path of a hurricane! It must have been a terrifying experience!

These grad school people take so long to give you an answer!

Must be very distressing and unsettling! All that wait and uncertainty...

You seem a very conscientious person. I admire you for that. It's a great valuable strength for life.

I agree with Vase that it would be healthy to take some time to do at least a modest creative project. Nothing too ambitious. But it might put you in a more positive frame of mind.

I wish you all the best!

See you soon,

Marcelo.

Thanks, I love yard work for the most part. I hate raking leaves on 2 archers of land, and no help😊

@HealingTalk I didn't use to put things off. But I've gotten pretty good at it lately

Work. I'm self employed or was - I guess on paper I still am but I haven't really worked on anything in two years

Find some motivation - some desire to do some work. I have a ton of ideas but no desire to put them to use

Lol - I'd make money

@mytwistedsoul

Hi! Thank you for coming here!

Your presence is greatly appreciated!

You have gotten really, really good at it. Delaying work for two years is record-breaking performance! 😀

A ton of ideas might be too much to deal with. You can't eat an elephant in one gulp. But maybe just one idea...

You might choose an easy one you like, and schedule 15 minutes three times a week or so. And see what happens...

Such an experiment might give you a sense of starting to make real what you envisioned. Which is nice.

And who knows? Eventually some income too...

All the best!

See you soon!

I have depression, PTSD and anxiety on top of autism, so procrastination is my norm. Lol

I've been up and down the past week.

Quite often.

Craft commissions and house chores.

Get my mind drawn to one task, I tend to lose focus and get sad or have random emotions at sudden intervals. So it tends to stop me in my tracks.

I could get more done and properly enjoy my hobbies and crafts again. My depression makes it hard to enjoy things like I used to.

@SharkieDearest

Hi, Sharkie!

Thank you for coming here!

And sorry for the excessive delay in answering you.

It's great that you keep some perspective and a sense of humor despite the challenges you face in your life.

I have a sense that you are very aware of the things that help you move forward.

These intrusive thoughts that make you lose focus and stop you from doing what you intend to do, are understandable in the context of PTSD.

It's not that you are not committed enough. Maybe getting more skillful at grounding yourself would be great for coming back to the here and now where is the task you wish to focus on.

You might try many grounding techniques (you will find dozens by googling on the internet) until you find some that works for you.

Anything to stop those intrusive thoughts and come back. From smelling pepper to munching ice, to dancing like crazy...

I wish you all the best!

See you soon!

Marcelo.

  • I’ve been up and down lately. I’m trying incredibly hard to build a healthy life that will support my growth and help my mental and physical health but even when I’m doing all of the right things, life is still incredibly painful and difficult to navigate.
  • I frequently procrastinate pretty much anything I have to do, even enjoyable activities. I have ADHD and my executive dysfunction literally paralyzes me some days.
  • Physically writing out what I need to do for the day and setting aside that time to plan in the morning is essential. Even if I make a plan the night before, I have to go over it and commit to getting those things done at the set times.
  • If I can do this regularly, I’d have much less stress about things hanging over my head.

@ADHDBarbie

Hi!

Thank you for coming here!

And sorry for the excessive delay in answering you.

I congratulate you for all the efforts you do to build a healthy life and promoting your growth and mental and physical health

Writing down orderly and systematically the tasks ahead is the way to go.

You seem very conscientious and committed to doing things right.

This in itself is very commendable. I admire you for that.

And you are right that "downloading" to paper the concerns you have, that might keep bouncing inside your head, about pending tasks, etc. is a great tool to promote some calm and peace of mind.

I suggest having a "fast download" place, like a pen and notebook you always have at hand to write fast whatever comes to your mind, and an "orderly" place, like your to-do list and calendar, where you assign all those ideas and concerns to their proper places and times.

For example, if you are obsessed about something that must be done in the future, you can write immediately in the first notebook, and later schedule it in your calendar / to-do list / projects list system for next month.

I wish you all the best in your life.

You certainly deserve it.

See you soon.

Marcelo.

Hi!

Thank you for coming here!

I am glad that you have been feeling well.

Let's celebrate that!

Volunteering must come after you have your needs met.

So it's ok to postpone it until you have the extra energy to do it, I think.

I wish you all the best.

See you soon!

Just checking in because I’m at a very low point.

To start off, my job is going well. They approved my time change and I’m working only four days, which is far more manageable. So there’s that win.

But school has become a nightmare. I have a midterm in two days (from the date of posting this) and I’m terrified. I’ve been studying and studying and I’m not confident. This test is 20% of my grade and with adhd, it’s a struggle. I can’t get accommodations to have my notes because I’ll just get extra time for the exam.

if I don’t pass, I’m probably just going to just emotionally disconnect from the class. Having failed it before, I’ll live if that happens, but I’ll go through my usual cycle of not eating, not caring for myself and spending every second wanting to throw myself off my roof.

but here’s hoping that doesn’t happen.

Actually, that sounds a lot better than some of your other posts. I am glad that your job is going okay.

It is great that you have been studying hard for the midterm. That means a great deal. I can imagine how hard ADHD makes things, but keep reminding yourself that a bare minimum you have studied for the exam twice. That means you have a greater chance of doing better. You don't have to do perfect, you just have to pass.

If you start to panic during the exam, stop and take a few deep breaths. Close your eyes and take a deep breath in on the count of four and out on the count of ten. It will settle you a bit.

Don't think about what might happen if you don't pass. Focus just on the test itself, question by question. You can do this. @Server8462

I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU! YOU DID IT! I knew that you could. You should be quite proud of yourself tonight.

I bet that your brain doesn't let you realize it, but you are quite the turn around story. Nothing is ever going to be perfect, but you are doing so, so much better than you once were.

A year or so ago, I would try to think of ways that I could help you as I went about my day. You are starting to help yourself. That is so AWESOME! @Server8462
