Alone
My entire high school years I have had one good friend and a few acquaintances, recently I lost that good friend now all I’m left with is my boyfriend. I’m glad to have him, but I feel I depend on him sometimes. He has a large group of friends that he hangs out with often, his social life is way better than mine and it’s a bit embarrassing, and I envy it. I look at other people, they have many friends and they hangout with each other. I just wish I could have friends that I could hangout with, and that actually want to hang out with me, outside of school/work, I know I’d be so much happier and less lonely. My family and boyfriend always tell me to just make friends, talk to people, but it’s not that easy. I talk to people at school and work when I can, I do try, but I guess I’ll always just be the floater that nobody will pick first in a room full of people.
@raspberryEast5950 Hey there raspberryEast !
It sounds like you're going through a really tough time, and it's understandable to feel lonely and isolated. Losing your close friend is a great loss, and it's natural to feel adrift without that strong connection.
You're not alone in feeling this way. I know how lonely and isolating it can be to feel like a "floater friend" – someone who kind of just floats between groups but doesn't really belong to any one. I've been there too, and it can be really disheartening. ☹️
It's important to remember that building genuine friendships takes time and effort! It's not always easy to find your people, and it can feel like you're constantly putting yourself out there without much luck. But don't give up hope! Here are a few suggestions that might help:
- Explore your interests: Join clubs, groups, or classes related to your hobbies. This is a great way to meet people who share your passions/interests.
- Volunteer: Volunteering for causes you care about can be rewarding and a great way to connect with others who care about the same causes.
- Reach out to acquaintances: Even if you don't have deep connections with everyone you know, try to deepen those existing relationships. Invite an acquaintance for coffee, suggest a casual hike, or simply reach out to chat.
- Be patient and kind to yourself: Building friendships takes time. Don't get discouraged if things don't happen overnight. Focus on building genuine connections, even if they're small at first.
- Limit social media comparisons: Social media can often paint an unrealistic picture of other people's lives. Try to limit your time on social media and focus on building real-life connections.
Remember, you're worthy of meaningful friendships! 💖 Keep putting yourself out there, and don't be afraid to be vulnerable and authentic. You'll find your people eventually. 🫂
In the meantime, it's okay to lean on your boyfriend for support. Just make sure to communicate openly and honestly with him about your feelings.
I hope these suggestions offer some comfort and guidance. Please remember that you're not alone in this, and there are people who care about you. If you ever want to vent privately, my inbox is open to you!
