Chronic regret
This could probably also go in the Anxiety forum. But I feel more depressed about it than anxious.
I can’t stop my mind wandering to regret over past decisions I’ve made. I try to speak kindly to myself. In my earlier years I could look at my regrets with a healthier perspective. I was comfortable with failing, making mistakes, taking a chance. I could tell myself it’s a learning experience, I’m right where I’m supposed to be, I did what I thought was right at the time. Those thoughts don’t seem to bring me peace anymore. I keep making bad decisions, getting in the wrong relationships, not learning from retraumatizing myself. It’s like I’m still trying to process my original trauma and keep purposely finding people like my parents to fix it. I know that’s a thing. I don’t think I am at the time, they seem so different in the beginning, then their true colors come out once I feel stuck.
I’m just very unhappy with where I am in life right now, so much of life has passed by now, and I wish I’d known better then. I try to tell myself some things can get better, but other things just can’t, like leaving my kids’ father and making them have 2 families. I don’t really regret being away from him, but I’ve never gotten over doing that to my kids. I don’t know if I’m ever going to make a friend. I don’t really know how to have one anymore. There’s more, I just don’t have the energy to explain.
I have a lot of anxiety about making any decisions now, as I’m terrified of making things worse for myself. I feel like I can’t trust my own judgment, I overthink everything. I’m exhausted. I just want to hide somewhere.

It is a lonely and tough place to be .... stuck in regret / what if and overthinking everything.
In the end if we see we did the best with could with the situation or information we have in the moment. too many live in a world they have chronic regret or uncertainty because they want to have a do-over. we do not live life like a movie with several re takes or testing lines etc. we have to let go of wish we had said something .... wish we had made different decisions... there are no do-overs. there are do - betters but not do-overs.
@toughTiger6481 Thank you. ❤️ I love reading your replies to me and other people. You have so much wisdom and depth to your words.
I think I’ve known what you’re saying is true. Some days I do better with the truth than others. Maybe time is needed to really feel that I’m where I’m supposed to be. I think if I can feel I’m taking back my power and making some progress toward where I want to be, I will be able to feel a little better with where I’m at.

Hi Pieces,
The spiral eventually stops … maybe it has already slowed down since your post.
I know you don’t have any friends locally, but you have them here on 7Cups (and perhaps elsewhere). We are real (despite what my ex-wife says). My friends online literally saved my life … not because one person did this, or said that on, some random day … I was saved because all the people I have met online (even the jerky people) were manifestations of a divine intelligence that orchestrated everything for my greater good—but more importantly the greater good of those I came into contact with.
Even though you know only a little bit of my medical history—the truth is: life begins here, for both of us.
Now.
(Okay, this may be a little way out there … but try to stick with it.)
See you soon!
Tom
@FaithfulScout Hi Tom! It’s good to see you!
You know, lately I haven’t been feeling as lonely as I was. I have been feeling very fulfilled with my conversations and connections here. Whether I can see the person or not doesn’t make the conversation any less meaningful. Sometimes I’ve felt like the anonymity here has made the conversation easier, like people are able to be more themselves and at ease, without fear of judgment.

I am so happy to hear that ☺️
