Depression & Society- Looking through the Lens
Hey Depression Community! 💜
Its lovely to see you all around! ❤️ I know things are difficult at this time! 🥺
Often the word 'Depression' is overlooked in society 🥺 sometimes people think it's all about being 'sad' or 'negative'. :( that being depressed is about being sad and crying and there are all sorts of misconceptions and interpretations of Depression ❤️
But sometimes it's much more than being sad ❤️
Depression is hard. 💜 its not easy. And everyone has a different experience of Depression ❤️ and your feelings are valid 💞 proud of you!

For example,
When society looks through the lens of Depression, people often think 'get over it' or something like 'snap out of it' . ❤️
Sometimes it's hard to live in a world where your scared people will assume and judge you 😕 and it makes it even more difficult to open up about it :(
Open for discussion!
What are some misconceptions about The word 'Depression' and societies stigma's over it?

Thank you, Bunny, for addressing this matter.
I agree with @HealingTalk. Many of non-depressed people label us as being "lazy". All the "snap out of it" and "get over it" are all common phrases we often hear one too many times.
It's difficult to get someone who's never had the "real" depression to understand us. All they see it as is feeling sad, that it's only temporary, once the phase has passed, that we'll be okay. But like we all know, depression is actually a chemical imbalance in the brain, that it's often something we cannot control, and it's never as simple as momentary sadness.
I think many of us will agree that in many societies in the world, being depressed is a sign of weakness. Being vulnerable and having emotional feelings is a weakness, something that society will often overlook or ignore. You can tell which countries' communities that do not look at depression seriously, as a mental illness by seeing the rates of people passing. Often, it is not talked about until after they have gone. I wish there was something those countries can do to provide for the depressed, sometimes, I wish there was something I could do too.
I hate that people think because I am successful in school that I am not depressed.
