Depression Support Check-In: August 24th-30th 2023
Hello community!
Thinking about self-care, I thought how sometimes some people do a lot for others and little about themself.
It
could be doing things for family members, friends or even co-workers
and the risk is to spend a lot of energy, but it's important to save
some of it, for self-care.
* On a daily basis, how much of what you do is for yourself? How much is for other people?
* What would you do to improve your self-care moments?
* Did you do something lately that helped caring for yourself?

@Optimisticempath
Hi Optimistic!! π
That's great, important is to start, don't be in a rush, take it in steps π
You are doing great in having started considering self care, that's the big step that can guide you through the improvement path!
Let's keep updated, let me know how things proceed and... keep on going πͺ
@MeaningfulSilence
Hi, Silence,
On a daily basis, how much of what you do is for yourself? How much is for other people? It's currently almost all for myself.
* What would you do to improve your self-care moments? I would do them at all. Since classes started my schedule is all out of whack.
* Did you do something lately that helped caring for yourself? I did a little bit of sleeping longer and a little bit of schoolwork that I didn't want to do.

Nice to see you posting again! @purpleTree4652

BESTVASE7265! :) It's so nice to hear from you. I've thought of you and hoped you are ok.
How are you? Have you been enjoying summer?
Everything is good with the exception of the coming hurricane. But I don't think it is going to hit us hard at all. However, preparation is always stressful. @purpleTree4652
@bestVase7265
God bless you and yours. I remember that hurricane prep and fear in advance of waiting to see where it hits and how strong it is. I pray it fizzles.
I'm glad to hear everything else is ok.
We should be fine. The stress is the houseful of people and animals, kind of like Noah's ark with internet so I can keep teaching. @purpleTree4652
Everything good so far. @purpleTree4652
@bestVase7265
I'm glad to hear it. Are you all staying?
May God bless you and protect you and yours.
Everything went fine. It was easier than last year. My son brought home nicer guests and though it was crowded, we have done okay. They will all go back to campus on Friday. We had no damage and kept our electricity.@purpleTree4652
@bestVase7265
Thank God. I was thinking about you and your family. No damage and electricity is a great thing. :) How did you manage that?
I can just picture your house full of college guys and your family. Oy!
love and blessings, tree
We still have six people: the three normal people, my son, two friends (boyfriend and girlfriend), 2 cats who are here normally, and a rabbit that my son is caring for. And my oldest son who doesn't live with us keeps popping over to visit. But tomorrow things should be more normal as all the visitors return home.
We didn't take a direct hit from the storm and live pretty far from the shoreline. There were people that lost their homes, but many of those lived in areas that flood regularly to begin with. @purpleTree4652
@bestVase7265
Is it kind of nice to have all those people there? Are they good guests?
That is so sad that some lost their homes. I know it happens, but it's still sat.
Again, I'm glad you all are okay.

Actually this time the guests were excellent. Some of the college kids that mine have brought home for hurricanes in the past haven't been very thoughtful. These two were really kind. But everyone went back to campus today.
I found out today that one of my colleagues did lose a great deal during the hurricane. They were in a rental home that flooded forcing them to leave with just the clothes on their backs at 5 am. That really is horrible to imagine.
I hope that your classes are going well. @purpleTree4652
@bestVase7265
Oh, your poor colleagues! What a traumatic experience for them! Are they ok? Do they have a go fund me set up or is there any where I can give a little money?
My classes are ok so far.
We are all trying to find ways of supporting him. Luckily they were renting rather than being in a house that they owned. But they will need to start again from scratch. @purpleTree4652
@bestVase7265
God bless them.

Hello there purpleTree4652!
It's good that you are trying to rest, hope you can have little refreshing me-time moments to help with your daily life π
@MeaningfulSilence
Hi, Silence, I am and that is the problem. I've been out of work so long that all I did was have me time, and it's proving hard to give up. lol
hey everyone.
i've had a good summer. Enjoyed the outdoors and tried a few new things. I decided instead of going back to school in the fall, I will now register for spring instead. I'm planning on taking developmental psychology online, since I work full time. I plan on completing the rest of my 6 courses and then applying for an accelerated nursing degree. I'd eventually want to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner.
Regarding self-care, most of what I do is for someone else. I do need to start putting myself first. Right now, i'm still practicing my driving so that I can take my road test in october.
One way I practice self-care is by making sure I get a full night of sleep. When I am sleep deprived I am not as productive as I normally am
