Depressive & intrusive thoughts

Things have been improving for me lately in life. I’ve got my old job back, and I’m staying busy while slowly becoming healthier and more financially secure. Yet even with all of this good in my life I randomly have thoughts about harming myself. I have no plan to act on these impulses, but it’s bothering me that they just randomly appear.

Sometimes I think my brain sees these thoughts as normal due to how long I spent in such a depressed state in my teen years. Anyone else have any insight?

Yes, you are right, addictive behavior often repeats itself even in good times and it is not that it is abnormal, but you should not give in. Our brain adapts to everything faster and gets used to it, but it is more difficult to rebuild it than, for example, muscles or daily routine. So you can feel such things, but it does not mean that you should do them. Keep moving forward and you really will stop thinking like this. Hold on and everything will be fine!
