Hateful parents - lifelong depression & low self-esteem
My parents had always been hateful and violent to each other all my life. They fought a lot about aborting me in utero and had been fighting always because of which i never had close friends or any relationships. When I finally got a well-paying job to move out and took my mom to safety, she abandoned me to go back and fight in court demanding money from dad. Eight years of legal battles later, they both are staying in the same house fighting but it derailed my mental health. I quit my job and joined a monastery as a monk to explore spirituality. I got trained in meditation, yoga, and philosophy for eight years. It was very rewarding to help so many people and lead social service programmes for so many poort families families. But I later found the monastery management to be financially corrupt and had to leave as they tried to frame me for petty theft. Now I am back with my hateful parents, and struggling to restart my career, with no friends or support. The girl I loved with all my heart took away all my savings and got back with her ex and got pregnant.
Now, at 35, I am broke, broken, alone, and stuck. Any help or support would be deeply appreciated.
Sorry you're going through that difficult situation. I can relate to leaving a unhealthy/dysfunctional household and having an ex who broke my heart at the time and took my money... I've ended up having many restarts in life, but hoping this time, it will be a good restart and will be back on me feet. Similar to you, I have to move in with one of my (toxic) parents who physically, verbally, and abused me in other ways...
The only thing I can suggest in terms of struggling with finding a job is talking to a job recruiter or temp agency. Regardless of how your resume looks like, they can help you find a job or assist you in gaining the right skills. Apart from that, retail work and call centers are always hiring no matter what (if you don't care the type of job). I have made a goal for myself to only stay for 3 months, save money, and move out. Currently working towards a real estate license, which will enable me a more stable life (financially).
It sounds like the environment you grew up in is not very healthy for you, and it might be best to make some goals/plans to leave that environment as soon as you're able to -- maybe apply for unemployment, cash assistance, and nutrition assistance while you are seeking a job out. I tried those things plus disability (I had to stop working due to some medical issues paired up with my chronic pain). It didn't really work out for me, so going to force myself to get a job, even if I'm still physically unwell, I don't really have much of a choice...except to find a doctor that takes my issues more seriously and try again with applying for disabilities... I digress.
In terms of support-wise, it might be good to look into joining groups that have similar interest/hobbies as yourself to meet new people, or joining therapy support groups that have experienced what you have. I have gone on-and-off to DV Support Groups based on my situation(s) [ex. Abusive parents & ex, nearly made me unalive at one point.]
TLDR; For financial stability, I recommend looking into job or temp agencies and talk to a recruiter, as it is their job to find a job with your skill level or help you obtain new skills. Also, make a plan (ex. "I will stay with parents for XX amount of months and save XX amount of money each month to be able to afford my own transportation and housing". Furthermore, you can apply for unemployment, cash assistance, nutrition, and medical assistance from the government while you are in the process of job searching. Social aspect, join interest/hobby groups and for support, join therapy support groups for help to get the resources you need. Hope it works out for you. Sending good vibes your way. ✨
@Uncouthgull013: I’m really sorry you’re in this unfortunate situation. My advice is to get a job. It’s 2024. There’s more than one acceptable way to get a job/career that’ll get you a salary. In the past I remember graduating high school with a diploma to get to a college that’ll accept you for you to graduate from with the bachelor’s or master’s degree to get a job. But it’s not like that anymore. Now there’s trade schools, boot camps, online courses, etc where you can learn everything you need to know and then get a job in that field.
