I left the 50+ Community...
...actually I'm gonna hit the big 5-0 in about two months from now, but I was in the 50+ Community here in Cups for a good while. Gradually my participation waned....not sure if I can explain why. Recent lifestyle changes were definitely a factor.
Finally upon logging in tonight & going through the forums, I realized the irony: the closer I get to qualifying in terms of age, the more irrelevant the 50+ Community becomes. It's all about finding "beauty" & "things to celebrate" about getting older whereas in my experience, there is nothing about aging that is anywhere near as wonderful...my body's overall functionality certainly isn't anything to rejoice over....
So I left the "community".
There aren't too many people to talk to about aging when so few are willing to face the truth, however unpleasant & cold it is.
Yes, I've been depressed lately.
@slowdecline48
You are not alone many people are not all "positive thinking solves everything" types.
For many the 5-0 b-day was very depressing and nothing to celebrate. That is how it was for me.
I told my family NO celebration or anything to mark that.......had several friends who also dealt with it as it hit them hard.
You will get thru it in your own way and hopefully find your way out of depression
@slowdecline48
I am sorry to hear that you do not feel that the 50+ community is the right place for you and decided to leave the community.
We all age differently and some illnesses/conditions can make it very hard to enjoy the later years in life, depression does it for sure. What comes with aging is not always fun but it can also create a lot of suffering. Dealing with this pain can be difficult especially when your body hurts every day. What helps me every day is creating a nice time to which I can look forward to, even if it is something very simple like watching a movie and having some popcorn.
I like to thank you for bringing up your point so I can reflect on it for threads in the future. Know that you are always welcome to rejoin the community.
Btw did you see the threads made by pamharley003 in the 50+ community about health challenges we face?
