Maybe I’m Not Wrong After All

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about what my grandmother said — that I’m selfish for not teaching my sister or “utilizing my time” during the holidays. Maybe she’s right. Or maybe she doesn’t really see what’s behind everything.

Because every day, even during holidays, I still do my part — all the chores, all the responsibilities. And it’s not like I sit idle. I just wanted to rest for a while. To breathe. To have a small break before everything starts again.

People forget how tiring it really is — carrying a heavy school bag every day, dealing with exams, expectations, pressure, then coming home and doing housework. When the holidays finally come, shouldn’t I have the right to pause for a moment? To let my mind rest before the next exam, the next responsibility, the next pressure?

But instead, I get called selfish, lazy, even jealous. As if needing rest means I don’t want my sister to have a better future. As if taking a break means I’ve stopped caring. It hurts when someone says that, especially when they don’t see how hard I’ve already been trying.

Sometimes I wonder if this is really my fault — for wanting a bit of peace. Maybe I’m wrong. Or maybe I just need to stop feeling guilty for being tired.

You are not wrong. Everyone needs rest from time to time. Rest can take several forms. More sleep, peace and quiet, a break from school/work/chores just to do something you enjoy, etc.....
