I am 55 years old, divorced, and dealing with low self-esteem and social anxiety.

I am new on my journey and would love any advice on either if not both.

...See more I'm not sure what to do. My birthday is tomorrow. I have made it as clear as I possibly can. I do not want any party, presents, or even happy birthday wishes. Nobody listens, not even my own (adult) children. I have to take a vacation from work because they do not respect my wishes as well. I'm to a point, I will have to go for a one day road trip.

...See more I am close to another full rotation around the sun (birthday is fast approaching). I hate receiving presents. I know money is tight and I feel bad when people spend money on me.  A co-worker believes that I don't feel worthy of receiving presents. I guess, in a way, he is correct.  I don't leave the house on that day. I take a vacation day from work so I don't hear it from my co-workers. I don't tell anyone what day it is. I wish we could just skip the day altogether.  How do I go about addressing this?

...See more My therapist told me on Friday that she thought I would be better off seeing someone else that is more goal based. I'm already 4 months+ into and I do not trust easily. I would be starting all over at this point. It doesn't seem worth it at this point. She has gained my trust over these 4 months. This caught me off-guard.
