Mothers Day, Rant
My mother is no longer with us, but Mothers Day always brings back the memories. Not good ones. I spent all my childhood trying to get my mothers love, only to be constantly put down, and rejected. By rejected I meant simply giving her a hug, which she would hug my brother just fine, my cousins, her friends. She just didn't want my hugs. I would spend some of my birthday money to buy her a mothers day gift, one of which she even told me she didn't like it. (she picked the gift out herself..)
As a child I hated the commercials. "No one loves you like your mother" "Nothing like a mothers love" "Mother's unconditional love" as just some quotes. I remember as a child wanting to shout not every mother loves their child.
I've gotten better, but mothers day always brings it up again. Of wanting my mother to love me but knowing now that she is gone I'll never be able to get it. Sorry for the rant and thank you.
@ShellyZz
Hey Shelly, I was aiming to to see more of your kitty posts but I came across this and couldn't stop myself from commenting.
As someone who grew up with narcissistic parenting and went through physical, mental, emotional abuse for many years I can understand that.
I didn't have the love and support of my parents. It sure does suck. Growing up I envied other kids a lot, even orphans.
I felt exactly the same about the whole popular thing regarding how a mother loves their kid more than anyone else, how a parent always wants the best for you and so on. I hope that the society one day realises how harmful these are for someone who doesn't have the luxury of a loving parent. We still assume a lot, we have much to learn and grow from it.
I'm sorry that you went through this. You deserved better. In my 30's now and I had accepted this, but I will never make peace with it. I hope that you find the support, love and understanding.
@patientAcai8660 Thank you. I'm so sorry you went through that. Mine wasn't physical as she wanted to keep up the appearance of a loving parent in front of family members. She was mad that I bruised easily so that saved me from that part.
And yeah its hard when I see those ads. I'm not sure how they could change them, I just wish it wasn't on so much during that month.
You also deserved better. I'm also in my 30's and learning to accept it. I mostly just ignore it now. Thank you I hope so too! I hope you have support and love now.
