🌿 My Story & Reflection

Hi everyone,

I wanted to share something that’s been heavy on my heart.

I grew up in an environment where I often felt neglected and distanced from my parents. They were busy and rarely present, and because of that I spent a lot of time feeling jealous of other kids who were cared for and fed by their parents. My guardians raised me instead. One married and went abroad and One of them used to be kind, but over time, because of stress and life, she became more frustrated and sometimes takes her anger out on me and my younger sister. There have been times when she’s shouted at us or even hit us with objects.

Even though it’s not constant, it’s unpredictable — depending on her mood or situation. I try to protect my sister, but sometimes I’m scared or too exhausted. We still keep doing the chores and trying to make peace.

I’ve also lost an older sister who was like a mother figure to me. After her death, the emptiness and loneliness grew. I’ve noticed signs of high-functioning depression in myself — always doing my duties and smiling on the outside, but hurting deeply inside. Sometimes I retreat into imagination because it feels safer than reality.

I’m trying to break the cycle of anger and pain. I want to heal and be there for my sister, but it’s hard. It’s also hard to reach out for help. Writing this here is already a big step for me.

If anyone else has grown up feeling neglected or caught in family violence but is still trying to heal, I’d love to hear from you. Maybe we can remind each other we’re not alone.

Thank you for reading.

@communicativeKiwi4255 Anger can feel like a pressure cooker. If unexpressed you think it only explodes on others but it does on you to.

The root of anger is fear and shame. Fear of being seen as weak.

Anger in the moment can make the person feel powerful and then feel like a horrible person after they have been angry.

How can you tell yourself its ok that you feel stuck? <3

How can you invite open communication with healthy boundaries? <3

How can you take "no" for an answer? <3

How afraid or unafraid are you of emotional intimacy? <3

How does it feel to be in your own body? <3

Dr Kim Sage has a Youtubee channel and Dr Patrick Teahan on the fight response that is involved in trauma.

The fight response is when you go into defense mode - you criticize, you argue, you try to assert power and control. Your biggest fear is losing control and not being seen as a force to be reckoned with.

Sends love for processing your difficult experience with a gentle care <3

I just wanted to take a moment to thank you sincerely for your reply. It might seem like a small thing, but to me it was very big. For a long time, I’ve had trouble expressing myself at home. I’ve always turned to AI chats or journals to try to sort through my feelings, because it felt safer than opening up to real people.

Even though I’ve written so many times in journals and AI chats, there’s always been so much emotion inside me that I couldn’t explain properly. But your message reached me in a way I wasn’t expecting. It made me feel seen, heard, and comforted — something I rarely experience.

Thank you for taking the time to read my words and respond with kindness. It means more to me than you know.

First of all I’d like to say how proud I am of you for making this huge step forward reaching out, breaking the cycle and healing.

I understand how painful it is to feel neglected as a child.

Diving into your imagination to distance and distract yourself from what’s happening around, is a way of coping and it’s a big sign of the start of your healing process. It’s inspiring how you’re trying your best for yourself and your sister, once again, I’m very very very proud of you.

You are not alone. Never forget who you’re working hard for to heal

I just wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your reply meant so much more to me than you may realize. For a long time I’ve felt unseen and alone with my feelings, and reading your words gave me a moment of comfort I didn’t expect. It reminded me that there are still kind and understanding people out there. Thank you for taking the time to care — it truly matters.
