My parents will never change
I have nightmares about my parents. Even going to college and now being away from them in my own professional job is not enough to escape their impact. They went from unstable abusive parents to unstable dependent parents. I don’t know where to go from here. It’s one thing to have aging parents who can’t work anymore, and another to have emotionally immature financially irresponsible addict parents who will just never “get” life. They didn’t save for retirement. They didn’t plan ahead. They destroyed their business. They owe people money. I hate them. Today, their issues are now my problem, as I expected. Everyone on this site can tell me to shut the door in their face, create “boundaries”, choose how much to let them into my life. But I don’t think anyone truly gets it. They’re more like a parasite that will just be here draining my life until one of us dies. I’m so hopeless today. I’m sorry.

I get it ... i will not tell you things like boundaries............you are not responsible for their failures or debt.
Do not start to pay anything or take it on...
in our family we had groups of people like you described and yes we cut them off/ blocked the phone and avoid them of course they try as they have wasted their lives .. not prepared for older age ... harder to work when older.... no savings but that does not mean it is your battle. So many people think they have to put up with mistreatment because of a family ties. guilt is only effective if you let them use it.

from the way they treated you, you owe them nothing at all🫶people alw think that their solutions are one size fits all but in reality, each situation is different. it’s not like a math problem uk where like 1+1 is always gonna be 2 the solutions do now apply to every situation
and you have nothing to apologise for ok? youre stronger than you will ever know, so don’t give up right now💪💪
