is love real?

i think love is just a social construct. but i would like to hear some stories that might change my view on it.

share a personal story that made you believe love is real, could be any form of love (platonic, romantic, parental). i'm a very "i'll believe it when i see it" type of person, and i have never in my life seen love nor felt it, and if i did, i was never aware of it. i have seen a lot of "toxic love", if that can even be considered love, and if i have seen something i perceive as love, it has always faded away into nothingness. so is there such thing as long-lasting love, or love at all?

I agree I think there is a social construct surrounding what we consider demonstrations of love such as hugging, holding hands etc...

However I do think love is the word that we define certain behaviors that we as humans have towards each other. I personally think theres many definitions of love and we can come into thinking what it means at each level but I feel like universally we do share certain measurable biological connections with each other that we as human define as love. For example, a mother's love for a baby can be shown as she cares for the child as the child grows and becomes nurtured into an adult, the babies love for the mother can be manifested in the ways the child levitates toward the mother's smell/cries when the mother is absent. Love can be seen when we give an extra snack to our sibling instead of taking it for yourself or when you go out and buy food for your friends. Often times love is portrayed as something you "actively feel" or something that's "fervent" but I do think that view has its shortcomings. These interactions we have with other people are so ingrained in our behavior as humans that in a sense love can be even subconscious: we do things for others out of love without even realizing we are showing love to that person. I think in this definition we can find greater appreciation for the people who do care for us and also find an even greater understanding of how to love others. Just my two cents on it though! Let me know what you think :)

I have been married for 26 years this month. Does that count? I believe that love is real, but it is hard work. You have to compromise a great deal and trust the other person. You also have to realize that you don't always get what you want.

But it doesn't always fade. It does change shape a lot and it looks different to each person. @peaceandblessings

I think the love we feel around us is filtered through our perception. So what we really truly know is self love.
