what is depression for you

why does one fall into depression? the million dollar question. the one every depressed person would like to know.

depression is a state of mind. it’s when your mind is your greatest enemy. when waking up is the last thing you want to do. when breathing seems like a chore. when every minor problem ends with thoughts about harming yourself. when no one can hurt you as much as you hurt yourself. when you feel so alone because no one truly gets it. when you feel so crazy and stupid because how come you’re just depressed? that you just feel so sad numb and empty for no reason? how come your life is good but you feel this awful pain? when it never goes away. when there is no such thing as escaping it because it’s been there your whole life. your mind. there is no way to escape it. when you hate people saying it gets better when it doesn’t because this isn’t a problem you can fix. when sometimes you wish that something bad happens so you feel justified in how you feel…so you finally have a reason to actually feel this pain.

that is what depression is for me. i’m interested to hear what depression is for you.

@pluckyCoconut4376

Depression is not being able to just feel happy, feeling numb and not knowing why.

Something just not clicking into place.

Tiredness.

Lack of motivation .

Numbness 💜💖

@pluckyCoconut4376

I remember a conversation I had with a friend about depression. His flippant answer was, “You know you're depressed when God keeps preventing you from getting what you want.” I don’t remember the outcome of that conversation, but I don’t believe it was very satisfying. In fact, I remember feeling frustrated because I had no clue what I wanted! So, how could he make that accusation of me?

I think that’s what depression for me was like: knowing I had to come up with a consequential answer without even knowing what the question was, in the first place.

Thanks for asking the question!

Well...

For me depression it's like... When you don't know how to feel at this point..... You probably even already know what's the problem yet.. you don't feel that motivation to continue fighting it anymore, there's the physical sensations too... feeling heavy... Having your hands cold and your head and chest hurting as you clench onto your pillow.. or the blanket.. or anything to bear with the loneliness you feel... You even probably have people you can talk about your pain with yet you don't want to because it would hurt you and hurt that person or because you don't really trust after all the things that happened... when your thoughts start to ruminate about how you aren't feeling well and your mind: in her attempt to find a solution starts to create darker thoughts you don't even want to act on.... So you maybe pull a facade or isolate yourself.... But the intensity of all either makes you become numb or irritable (or both...)

Idk that's.. kinda how it felt for me back when it was harder for me to deal with it but now gladly I'm... Feeling better than before... I'm.. kinda happy to say it?... It feels rare to feel this calm after all but it a good thing I guess heh......

I'm relieved of the fact I'm even alive now....

I hope everyone else manages to find peace too in their lives <3

I can relate to your definition of depression - thanks for creating a chat around this

for me depression feels like nothing is gonna get better, like there is no solution, like I’m in a sinking ship and can’t do anything to change life

It makes me feel horrible about myself and like it’s my fault for thinking and feeling too much

I wish I could stop the thoughts and feelings but sometimes I can’t and they are all mean and negative and hurt me so much that all I can do is cry. These thoughts make me feel so alone and that I can’t trust anyone, that no one is there to help or they can’t understand and like life is too hard. It makes me feel like there is no hope and it makes me not want to wake up either.

it makes me feel like I’m the problem for feeling this way because other people seem to handle life with such ease and such a way of being like “whatever let’s move on” and for me dealing with life feels so hard and too much sometimes

I came to this community to feel less alone in the daily battle of just existing, it’s a constant internal battle

I feel like a burden to my family because i have all these negative thoughts and emotions and they don’t

but it helps to know I’m not alone in feeling like this

so thank you all for sharing your experience and helping me feel less alone 🙏
