Honestly I think I've been living with depression my whole life maybe. I dont think I realized it till now. I was diagnosed at 13 I think... for Major Depressive Disorder. I was so depressed still am. I was 14 when I went to the hospital for suicidal thoughts and depression plus self harm. I was put on medication well another they switched them at that time. I was falling apart. I wish it was true that it gets better yes I'm only 16 but it keep getting worse I was in the hospital for a year and a half tons of meds. Im not going to lie I loved being so out of it and numb. I didnt have feelings as bad. Now im on medicine but getting taken off more and more. I want to say Im so bad and I cant handle it. That I'm extremely suicidal.

@Hope7879

Teenage depression is real tough. I can't say it's really easier now that I am an adult with a job and partner, pain is hard. But there are moments that are really worth it, today when it's real bad and I am convinced I'll never get better I think about those moments, do breathing exercises, and I know from years of experience that it can be hours or days but it'll pass. I didn't have that comfort when I was your age. You can make it. It'll be long and difficult, but stick around

It has been 14 years since I was diagnosed, but it appears to be more ancient. I saw countless professionals, was exposed to prejudice from doctors who think a depressive can't have any medical condition, it's just anxiety, was denied pain medication which worsened my condition, suffered from my family's "But you have everything to be happy"....Well, many cancer patients have everything to be happy. They still have cancer. But with mental health, if it doesn't show on an x Ray, you're faking it.

I have new hope now as it seems I could have been misdiagnosed and actually have a very similar condition to depression but which is treated differently. It would explain why antidepressants never worked very well. I try several approaches, meditation, hypnosis, acupuncture.

I have been living with depression for...

Well, I was only diagnosed when I had my first suicide attempt at 16 years old, but looking back, I had serious depression as a child and it was often just called "laziness". So I guess I've had depression for about 30 years (off and on).

Since i was 9, i guess. Maybe it started with my parents getting divorce, and the screaming verbal offences with i couldn't do anything to stop them. After that, i started to have severe social anxiety, maybe with 12, until now. My depression became real bad when i broke up with my ex-girlfrind. I started drinking, to run from reality, but it didn't help. It was a bad copping skill. Now i live with panic disorder, depression, and social anxiety. Just hopping that one day i will get better.

Perhaps whenI was 11 or 12, and the reality of everything started to sink in, that we'd never move, that I had no friends, I was sheltered, and somehow I could tell that things were going to be this way for a long, long time.

I had depression since I was 15 or younger. I'm just coming out of it and feeling better. I still feel it in my chest area but I'm doing better at being happy with things. I don't think there is anything wrong with me besides what I feel. I thank God for helping me out word out what I need to say to describe what I'm feeling to my friends and family. When I say the right words, usually I feel better.
