Hey I'm Sam and I've been dealing with depression, knowingly, for about 6 years now. I've had some bad days last month, but I think I'm doing better now that I've been back on my meds now for a few weeks. The semester being over helps too.
Hi there! I'm jessica. I'm 21 years old and have been struggling with depression for about years now. It started it high school but it was pretty mild at the time and would come in go. It got really bad during my last year of college to the point where I literally was incapable of taking of myself. So after I graduated I moved back in with my parents and for almost a whole year I loved in isolation, deleted my social media accounts, and therefore lost a lot of friends. I just needed some time away from the world to get myself together. After almost a year I finally found a job and re-enteringsociety and I am now trying to act "normal again" but it seems like this depression is never going to go away. I took Prozac for the past 3 months but it did absolutely nothing for me. My doctor just switched me to Wellbutrin. I've heard that it actually helps you lose weight and gives you energy. Has anyone ever tried Wellbutrin. I'd love to here from you guys and learn about your life stories as well. I just discovered this app and am loving it! Thanks for listening :)
Hi Everyone,
I'm often anxious and depressed. I never wanted to wake up, when i woke up I went back to sleep, until when I had to get up. I binge watched a lot of series. I had daily discussions with my partner about silly things, ending with tears, me binge eating or days of cold war. I didn't want to go to sleep because those were silent moments where my partner was in bed and couldn't judge me. I work as a freelance and I am procrastinating to do the paperwork, for months, which meant I wasn't get paid for work I did.
Lately I found 7cupsoftea and talking to listeners helped me.
I used Lift.do app (now it's coach.me, but I needed a lift, so it was perfect), I created a schedule to recover myself. I joined into plans, where accountability coaches are giving tips to create good habits and leave bad ones.
I am trying to get up early, drink water & green tea and write a "5 minute journal" every morning. The journal is for keeping track of my routine, my gratitude list, things that are in my power to do in that day to make the day better. At night I write two more entries: 3 amazing things that happened today and how could the day be better. I write my worries as I've resolved them, close the journal and sleep without thinking about them.
I check in to Stop, Breathe & Think app to log my state of mind & body, I choose 5 emotions I feel that day. Often I meditate afterwards, with a mindfulness meditation the app tells me to listen. I win online stickers drawn by a favorite illustrator of mine. It's fun and it helps a great deal.
I follow videos of 30 days of yoga with Adrienne, it makes me feel more focused. I wasn't running since high school. Now I run once a week with a Couch to 5K app. At the beginning you ran only 60sec, I can't do morethan that. I put small goals for myself: I will put on my running clothes and if I stay home, it's alright. Then I do the same for putting shoes on, ipod & keys on, going out, warm up walk. If I don't feel like it, I can always not run. But I rarely didn't.
If I feel good, I take my compost bin to the community garden, carry a thermos of tea and take some time for myself in the garden. It's a scientific fact that being in the nature helps with mental health!
I try to eat much more vegetables and fruit, and meat& fish are rarely on my plate. I rarely drink coffee, when I drink, I get a good blend, and drink it for pure joy, not for staying up or waking up.
Sleep, Water, Sunshine, Veggies, Exercise, Stretching, Meditation, Nature, Comfort of Friends, Walks and Books. Put these down on your schedule.
When you feel better, channel your distraction into seeking novelty. Meet new people, try new restaurants, learn about something new. Restart old hobbies. Think about people important to you, reach to your old contacts. I'm learning Icelandic, just because I like the sound and I might travel there some day. I'm using Memrise, it feels like a game. Duolingo is fun, too, for major languages.
Develop your creative side. Get yourself inspired. Expose yourself to new artists. If you can't go to a museum, go check Google Art Project online, and visit museums around the world for free. Keri Smith has great articles about daily tasks to expose yourself to art.
Once you have enough energy to work, tackle some backlog of work or home-work like fixing, cleaning, maintaining and organizing.
If I don't feel like running, I clean home for 20 min. When I'm depressed, I can't care less. But I say to myself, just put the timer on and vacuum or declutter. I follow a plan written on Apartment Therapy, everyday you have different tasks that come back in a few days. So if something's not finished in 20 min, you can continue the next day. My apartment was out of control, too. Now it's a bit better.
Once you're on top of you can think about your values, interests, take long term decisions, work on your life project, repair your relations with your friends. I'm not there yet, but keep working on it! Hope this helps!
Thanks for sharing :)
Thank you for your reply! I'm having difficulty with going out of my apartment, your messages help me, now I'll feel good enough to do it : )
I've been depressed for years and I just moved to a new town and I hate it. I don't really see a bright future ahead of me.I have no interests really,I'm a very dull person.
Hi 3362 I'm mike. you aren't dull and I know you have interests but I also know you don't see it that way at the moment. You have been felt a blow by moving to somewhere you don't like and believe me I know how that feels. But you do have friends for a start you have people here who are willing to listen and talk. And now there is me. If you want to chat then you can. I will listen and help if I can. Or try other people on here. There are people, kind people who will.do what they can. Take care
Hey there. I'm Heather and I'm new here, trying to find my way around the site. I'm finding it confusing and I'm wondering if it is because I'm using the app on my iPad. Is it easier to navigate using a browser instead?
So, I'm 46 and I don't recall many times in my life when I wasn't depressed. Done lots of therapy off and on, sometimes it helps but doesn't really seem to make a tangible difference. I haven't met an antidepressant that I'm willing to continue to take. The side effects are not worth the slight improvement. I'm not sure what I'm expecting from 7CoT. I'm very lonely, so hoping to meet a friend, I guess. But, well, I've had bad luck with friendships, so I'm skeptical.
Unemployed, no kids, amazing husband, no good friends.
Oh, yah, I'm also a certified health coach. Who can't help herself. Lovely, right?
Hi, I'm Jeen from Sweden. I like drawing and watching superhero, action movies. I don't really know what i am suppose to say but I draw daily and sometimes write and so.
So far i like 7cupsoftea it is a great place to talk and i found it when i feelt lonely.
Hello. My name is Katie. I come from your averagemiddle class family in your averageclass suburb in the US. I am a teenager at (insert normal suburban high school) I have the makings to be a happy person. I have a good, happy family. I have a safe home and food to eat and a bed to sleep on. I have friends and good teachers and normal grades. But even in the best of situations, something can go wrong. Since I was about 10 I've been struggling with low self esteem. And as I get older it gets worse. But I try to be normal and fine. Until I meet a boy in 6th grade and I like him a lot and I "date" him for a while year. And then in 7th grade this kid thinks he's a stud and cheats on me and dumps me. And when his other girl didn't work out he would come running back to me. This took place for 2 years. Until I ended it and started falling for my guy best friend. He has suicidal depression but I knew how to support him so I did. I talked him out of suicide countless times. And we got together and he got slowly better and it was good. Until it got bad again and he started blaming all of his problems on me and emotionally abusing me and saying if I ever ended it he would kill himself. Well a month ago today he ended it after a week long fight to try and get me to fix my anxiety.... And that night he attempted suicide... Well he was hospitalized for a week, came back, we sort of talked before getting into another fight.... And now he won't speak to me and I'm so alone and insecure and I scratch really hard at my wrists and dig my nails until I bleed.... I'm tired of being here and I just want to leave. But that's my story. XoxoKatie
Hi Katie, thank you for sharing!
hi, I'm gabbi. I've had depression for two years and have attempted suicide twice, as well as cutting and burning myself constantly. I'm an addict. I really just need someone to vent to, the person I relied on most abandoned me recently and I just need someone. thanks
Hi Gabbi,
Thank you for sharing and please talk to different listeners until you feel like it's right. I think there are other discussion boards about self harm and loss, visit them and read others' stories, too.
Coming here and writing was a major step for me. And keeping a journal to track my change was the next thing I did. I wrote quotes, I've copied drawings of other artists (I don't know how to draw) and I like to go back and see my perspective of the world at the beginning of my journey.
I've written some stuff that helped me getting a bit more balanced (not very functional yet) above, check out and use if you like any of the tools.
Write more when you feel like it!
I have been going through depression & anxiety for years. I have been suicidal in my teen years. Lately I have been having it rough where I don't want to function. I try to talk to my partner but it is hard. I lost my grandma in August and it triggered my depression really bad. I don't know what to do anymore. Some days I am scared and worried.
Hi CalmMelon,
It's good that you can point out your emotions.
I find being conscious about my emotions (and that they might be created by my depression & anxiety) very helpful in my recovery.
I wrote some tips that worked for me in these couple of months above, but I can't emphasize enough to keep a journal and practicing mindfulness.
I use a fiveminutejournal(.com) matrix to fill my journal with gratitude and awareness entries in the morning and at night. I still love the way that Stop, Breath and Think app tracks my mood and helpes me manage my emotional state.
Please talk to a lot of listeners until you find someone you feel like talking to, get a journal and track your state, and write more when you feel like it.
Hey, I'm new to this but I'm on anti depressants and none of my friends know, I feel alone in my recovery and it triggers me to self harm so I would love someone to talk to, I'll return the favour and listen to what you have to say :)
Hi freespirit, finding the right listener can take time, try searching through categories or their chatcounts. You can write here, too.
Thankyou all so much, you're right finding someone to listen does take time and I'm sure I can trust all of you to be there![]()
I'm here for you and to help you in whatever I you need ❤
Hey! My boyfriend has depression and has recently only just told me. Me and his mum are the only ones who know ! I promise if you tell someone you'll feel better. Also they won't feel weird or lumbered by it , I'm just trying to understand it all and give my boyfriend all the love and support that everyone needs when going through this 💝
Hey I feel the same way, I just want to find someone to talk if you want you can contact me I would love to share with you. I'm not a fluid englishspeaker but I can try and make my best. I'm from Colombia, my name is Angie!
One of the big things to remember about depression is that everything comes through a filter of negativity. The fact that you're making the effort to beat it is a massive step and something to be proud of.
