Hi All,
I've supported a number of people now who live with depression as well as living with it myself for a number of years. I can understand and relate to how difficult it can be to live with the daily struggles depression causes and the affects it has on the person living with it as well as how it affects those around us. It is by no means easy to live with depression.
This is one of the many reasons why I've chosen to become a listener on 7 Cups, I want to be able to provide support to those who really need it. I can appreciate that it isn't easy to talk about depression, but there is support available to those who want and need it. If anyone feels that they need to chat at any time, don't hesitate to contact me and I will be sure to reply to any messages and provide a time to have a chat.
Hi there, I'm not sure what to say but I always like to start with something positive so I love music and books, shopping, and my cat who always looks after me!
i am grateful for this thread I need it right now, I have suffered depression a long time and had treatment etc. I have been doing better but it's kind if coming back lately and I feel I can't talk to anyone because I don't want to upset/worry or put them through it all again.
I guess that's what brought me here then. I'm still trying to work up the courage to talk to a listener, it's hard when I just feel like such a burden already. But for now posting on the forums is helping.
I'd also like to say thank you to everyone who has responded and welcomed me here so far. You have no idea how much it means to someone in despair (well maybe you do)
I wish everyone well through whatever struggles you have. I hope we can all help each other. One of my favourite lyrics "together we'll make it through somehow"
Hello, This is Chris from Texas. I have depression and anxiety. Last week I was at a psych hospital in Port Arthur Texas that I don't recommend. No real therapyand not much medical.
My father picked me up and brought me me two hours north to where they live.
I had a bad anxiety experience past night, and I am worried about going home to live by myself Sunday.
My parents and aunt don't believe in hospital care even in the worst situations. They may or may not be right, but I am hurting.
Do what you feel won't worsen you're anxiety, there are lots of peoplewho care about you.
Hey, you can call me Tori. I've tried one-on-one chats here before but they don't seem to work well for me so I figured I'd try the forums.
I've been struggling with depression (or rather, dysthymia) in varying degrees for most of my life. Unfortunately, starting college last year seems to have worsened it severely. I've recently started having anxiety as well, likely for the same reason. I'll probably be posting here most often, though.
I was on anti-depressants for a while this fall, and they seemed to help, but they gave me heart palpitations so I had to stop taking them. I haven't had a chance to speak to a psychiatrist & get a new prescription, but hopefully that'll happen over winter break.
In happier news, I'm majoring in Art & Dance. It's great living away from my family and finally being able to focus on what I love. (It's deadlines & essays that freak me out.)
I'm currently in the midst of a block, though, which was triggered by a depressive episode that started last week and hasn't let up since. This means I haven't been working on my final project at all, which triggers the anxiety, which worsens the depression, and so on and so forth until I end up where I am now, crying in a corner and posting about it on the internet.
I want to end on a high note but can't think of anything to say but good luck and best wishes to everyone posting here.
Hey all!
I don't really know what to write, but i guess I could just introduce myself.I'm an exchange student living in England, so far I've been away from my friends and family for three months, still 6 months left until I'll see them again!
I'm an introvert, so I'm used to (and like) spending time by myself and I prefer staying home alone rather than going out.I have always had social anxiety, and this has lead to a hard time getting new friends and staying in my room a lot.In the last month I've 'diagnosed' myself with depression. And amixture of introversion, depression and social anxiety - while living in another country away from my friends and family, doesn't exactly make my life happy. The scary part is, because I'm an introvert I don't mind being alone and feeling lonely, and one week ago I started cutting myself. I don't really know how to feel about it, because I've always said to myself that I'd never do that.
Ending with a happy fact about myself - I looove music and listen to it all the time! Thehappiest moments of my life have been the concerts I've been to! I love sitting on the bus by myself listening to some good tunes, and do some 'people-watching'.I also enjoy watching movies/series and reading a good book! :)
Hi there,
I'm an introvert, always had social anxiety, too. Also winter in England shouldn't be the best place to make you want to go out.
Did you read Casual Vacancy from JK Rowling? I think it's a beautiful story and there is a character that cuts herself. I've never cut myself, but I made my legs bleed pinching with my nails all the time, while i was still at school. My bare legs looked disgusting and I've never worn short socks in those years. I stopped doing it in college.
In college I 'faked' being more social than I am. I went to parties, said hi to everyone and left when people stopped paying attention to my presence. I practiced a series of sentences, to introduce myself to others, to look interested in what they do, leave a good first impression. I doubt that it's a theraphy technique but faking worked for me, in college and while studying abroad. This way, while studying abroad, I fake-partied for a couple of months, then I've chosen few people who wouldn't judge me and we went to movies or concerts with few listeners. We cooked and wrote snail mail letters to home.
I still have trouble going out, i visit a community garden sometimes. There are rarely people, I can enjoy being alone, plants have a calming effect on mind, maes you feel less depressed and anxious. I started running with music, outdoors. Makes you release happy hormones.
You might ask for help for cutting yourself if you have a psychologist in your school. I'm not a listener, they might help you more with self harm.
But you should know that introversy is not an illness, it's the way we are. You are not alone.
I've been struggling the year with work related issues. The year started good but I had a sudden death in the family. We received new management and overnight my reviews went from good to bad. The promotion I thought I had vanished. I'm now managed by someone half my age. Nothing I do seems to matter.
Hi there, Im a homemaker.. i love that i get to spend my days serving the ones i love. I suffer from bipolar type 2. The lsdt yror so since having my third child I have been struggling to find the the right medication. Mostly i feel guilty because it takes such a tool on my family when Im not strong enough to support them.
I Am also struggling with ky faith. I am a child of God , because my depperisionhas over take me it a struggle to make dinner let alone focus on God to help me through. I think the hardest is in my mind i know what i want and what needs to be done , but then i just lose site and end up being a couch potato
Im not really good with uh, sharing things I guess but I've been battling hard core depression for about 3 years now and it's just a difficult thing to process yanno? Everything's been a rollarcoaster of emotions and there's not much to do about it. I've been diagnosed with depression but my parents dont want me to take medication for it so im stuck. There's no bright side to this disease this isn't something cute its not something to have a cure found in a first aid kit. I see people trying to be positive but there's nothing you can do but wait and suffer.
So... I'm confident I have depression but I am afraid to tell my mom. She always ignores the problems in my household so she would just wave this off saying its part of being a teen... I don't know where to go or what to do...
Hello everyone, I'm Kate.
I've been having a lot of hardships lately, some I've overcome just to be blindsided with more. It seems it never stops where I can finally breathe and say, "Phew. I made it, I can finally take a moment just to breathe."
I don't have many friends -- and all I actually have is my mom and siblings who while we also have our ups and downs we try to stick together.
My little family have done so much for me that lately I've been worried about talking to them about everything going through my mind, because in the past two of my siblings have said some mean things about only worrying about my problems -- which my mom was quick to tell them that as a family we are to try and work out everything as a whole. She's done so much for me that sometimes I just hate having to burden her with my thoughts and feelings.
I found this site doing an online search for depression chat rooms. I've been too a few in the past that really didn't help much. I'm glad to say so far everyone here has been very friendly! :)
A way I try to relieve my depression is through writing. I love story writing and I'm currently on the way to finishing my first novel. I'm also working on school from an online course.
I guess my sad thoughts only really started when today I found out my school and writing laptop is broken, and while it can be fixed I might lose everything on it. :( Including my story files and my back-up disk isn't working.
I hope to stay positive.
