I guess I realized that things were pretty bad up inside my head whenmy sister in law was hospitalized for depression, and my brother made some comment about her having a plan to kill herself. And I almost said, "doesn't everyone?" For me, it's normal to look at any situation and figure out how it could kill me... which I guess isn't normal at all... but with the families all worried about theSIL, I am left to pretend everything is fantastic, like I always do, because I don't want them to think I'm jumping on the Suicide Train (or would it be laying on the tracks?) And I don't want them to worry... or stick me in the psych ward too.
I just want to be happy. I don't know what happy feels like.
About 2 years ago I went into a hospital day program for mental illness. I wanted to be completely honest with them because I really wanted help. So when asked if I had a suicide plan I said "Yes, but it's not a big deal. I don't think I would ever do it. Doesn't everyone have a suicide plan 'just in case'?" Apparently not. I had a pill stash "just in case." I thought they were crazy for making a big deal out of it. That's when I realized I might in fact be suicidal. Who knew?

Hello. I'm a female in my mid-20s with major depressive disorder. My most recent episode started in late 2012 and I've really been on the couch ever since.
I'm here because I want to believe there is hope for me. Maybe talking with other people who have depression will help me realize that joy is waiting for me if only I would participate in my life.
In an effort to develop my spirituality as a last hail Mary, I, an atheist, have started reading the Bible. I have seen Christianity help people in recovery live more peaceful and purposeful lives, and I want that too! I'm a nonbeliever seeking God, and for some reason I'm embarrassed about that. Any like-minded souls out there?
I tried the same thing! Finding Christianity too hard to believe in, being an atheist also I found it much easier to find support and peace through meditation and yoga. I know it sounds silly but believing in a higher power even if it's just energy really helped me, Jesus was too far fetched for me. Hope this helps x
22 year old female struggling with depression since I can remember. Only gotten out of control in the past year, started with drug dependency but now sober going on 4 months. Finding the hardest part is my friends & family who don't seem to understand how hard it is for me sometimes. Hoping being on here eases some of that stress :)
I've been clean/sober for over 4 years now. I know how frustrating and lonely getting/staying sober can be. For me, suffering from addiction and major depressive disorder has been extremely isolating.
When I got sober I felt like I had to start my life all over again. I had to make new sober friends and figure out what sober me really liked to do. And with depression, that answer was nothing. I don't think anyone who hasn't been through addiction and depression can really understand the pain, desperation, and loneliness we go through.
Hit me up if you ever want a sober friend to talk to. Best wishes. -Erin
Hi, I'm Emily I'm here for obvious reasons. I didn't know what to do and have issues with being able to see a psychiatric doctor when I need to due to low income but I do need help and found this hoping it would do something for me
Hello, i've been struggling with depression for some time now......it felt like a light switch out of nowhere i had all these different thoughts and felt so much pressure.....at first it was confusing i used to think 'why are all these people happy they're only gonna die anyway and then what.....' The family problems didn't help at all and i just wished to die and i still do at times. I feel like me dying would solve so many things, but then i look at the smiles and i try it to and its no use sonce i'm tired of it being fake. So many things have happened and i feel like its only affecting me and i just don't get it. What more is there to life..........???
