Hello,

Im 21 years old and tonight I had to race to my fathers house due to him sounding suicidal over the phone. My fathers never been one to talk about his feeling and he always pushes people away. I’ve never had a good relationship with him do him being absent most of my life.

Tonight I found out the source of his pain is from my parents divorce from 10 years ago. He tends to blame everything on my mother and can’t see his own flaws (sort of a narcissist). He won’t admit to having a bad anger issues that is also brought on by his alcohol addiction. His meltdown was all triggered by his gf leaving him due to this exact issue that he can’t seem to understand.

All night my dad kept saying to me that he can’t look at me because I look so much like my mom, you sound just like your mom, you don’t know anything about being in a relationship, etc. I’m not sure if he meant what he said because he was starting to become aggressively drunk. But even with all the hurtful things he said I still was there to comfort him which is something he’s has never done for me. Also he has never believed in my anxiety/ depression and I help support my grandparents (his parents) who I live with and he hardly wants nothing to do with them.

i suggested professional help to him but he’s to prideful to get any so at this point I give up. He told me he has given up the will to live and has refused my help.

I may be selfish for feeling like this but this feels like the last straw for me and I want to cut ties with him permanently.I know it would be an awful time to do so but I’ve grown tired of him as a person and it seems clear he want nothing to do with us.

if anyone can give me advice in this kind of situation?

@Country3262

There are many people facing what you describe......

a person or people whom is a crisis after crisis and refusal to face their own issues.......We run to help and make every suggestion or compromise we can think of.....

Yet........ there is always a reason for these people to not change or seek help............

At a certain point and i think you have reached it there is no reason to continue being on call for crisis ...... and let them find rock bottom or find ways to get help or change. IMO no one should judge those who chose to cut ties or refuse to play into crisis after crisis.
