Antidepressants advice
Hello ,
I was diagnosed with moderately severe depression a few months ago and my GP has been really good. He offered me Antidepressants, a CBT programme or a combination at the time. I chose the CBT, though I didn't find the particular one I did that helpful. I did think I was getting better and indeed my GP even said he didn't think he even needed to recommend the meds anymore .
However, I've dipped down again into my lowest point and I am considering giving them a try. I was just wondering if anyone had any advice. Particularly as I am doing three interviews in the next few weeks for my PGCE, would I better to wait till after in terms of side effects (I've not taken them before )?
Additionally, as I want to go into teaching, will this affect my application?
I think I'd like to do another course of CBT as well, but I feel like I've reached a point where I need the extra help.

It is not going to affect your job application. You may have Occupational Health screening. If so depression is going to come up regardless if you opted to treat it with medication or CBT.
Not everyone gets side effects but some people do. It is very individual thing. When I have started on SSRI for anxiety I was very tired for the first couple of weeks (dropping off to sleep on the tram home at 5pm) but still able to function OK during the day.
@Belis also wanted to second this thought and add that, personally, some medications have actually made thinking interacting with people and performing at certain jobs easier. Not that this is everyone's experience.

Hey there, love, thank you so much for creating this lovely thread, it's really fantastic to see you reaching out for help <3 It can be a really big decision, deciding what medication we go on, or if we go on medication at all, but it's your doctor that's going to be the best person to talk you through the possible side effects and consequences of the drug - all we can talk about is our own personal experiences, which aren't going to be very helpful to you, as we can't mention medication names in the forums <3 I do echo @Exist56 to make sure that you ask about the side effects though, those are really important to know.
I really hope the CBT helps you, love, and good luck with the interviews!
