Anyone else use music as an escape?

I have both depression and anxiety, and I know this sounds clicheand everything, but music is one of my only escapes from reality. It's not just listening to music that helps me-it's seeing the lyrics written out, it's seeing the band members, it's hearing what they have to say.

Because of my depression, it's hard for me to feel most of the time. But whenever I listen to music, I can feel. It's like my choice of drug. Whenever my anxiety kicks in, I just listen to some Never Shout Never or Marianas Trench to calm me down.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who uses music as an escape?

Yes, I have always used music as an escape. As a little girl my escape was Michael Jackson and I always imagined that he would come and save me from the childhood abuse that I suffered. It was my way of hiding from reality and probably the only thing that kept me going. Now, I don't feel like music is so much an escape but an outlet to help me cope with my emotions.

When I was younger, my life was a lot better than it is now, so I didn't use it as an escape then. It's just that as time goes on and I get worse, the more I cling on to music. But I'm glad to hear that it helped you through your hard times. It gives me hope that I can get through this c:

My dad always gives me crap for having my headphones in all the time, but I'm too afraid to tell him that it's the only thing that makes me comfortable anymore.

I had exactly the same problem with my parents. But it was worth it for how much better it made (makes) me feel.

I do. It's Frnkiero andthe Cellabration, Twenty One Pilots, Gerard Way, Panic! At The Disco, Fall Out Boy, All Time Low, Bring Me The Horizon, My Chemical Romance, and As It Is. It seems like a lot, but hey... It makes me happy.

I always turn to music its my only escape from reality, it calms me when others can't. I feel safe in my own little world whenever i listen to music. I mostly listen to All time low, black veil brides, bowling for soup, bring me the horizon, etc.

Yep! I always listen to music when I need some time to relax.
