How To Look After Yourself
A lot of people don’t fully understand many mental illnesses, which means most of them don’t know how to look after themselves either. I, personally, know how to look after myself after learning for a few weeks and am now trying to change my routine and life to improve my mental state. Actively looking after yourself is a great start to battling depression and usually leads to overcoming depression and making you healthier physically and mentally 💜🌸
- Eat healthier ; cut out fizzy drinks and sugary food to decrease your sugar intake. Eat more vegetables and fruit, decrease the consumption of red meat to have a healthier diet. Drink more water and tea, try to cut out as much coffee as possible 🌸
- Sleep better ; if you have a messed up sleeping plan you can force yourself to sleep or stay up so that you fall asleep at an appropriate time. Waking up early to see the sun rise and sleeping around 9-10pm will ensure you have a good night's sleep and feel good in the morning. If you’re unable to fall asleep easily, try consulting a doctor and ask for medication to help you sleep🌸
- Stay active ; exercising for at least an hour a today can ensure you physically stay healthy and will help to clear your mind. Start with gentle exercises and get harder every month. Yoga and swimming are very therapeutic for cleaning your mind and relaxing your body🌸
- Avoid toxic behaviour ; try to minimise smoking cigarettes and alcohol as much as you can, you can have a great time without them and using other fun activities to distract yourself from those addictions can extremely help you mentally. Also, definitely stay away from drugs! Many drugs actively mess around with your head and a few of them can get you addicted on your first try. A life and mind without drugs will keep you focused on succeeding and you won’t constantly whine for them🌸
- Be more confident ; try out new fashion styles you’ve always wanted to, don’t put yourself down you look in the mirror, improve your skills in the hobbies you love. Try writing yourself loving notes and put them around your room so you see them when you wake. Tell yourself you’ve wonderful, kind, beautiful and smart🌸
- Cutting out toxic people ; if you have any friends that constantly put you down or increase your levels of depression, cut them out. Surround yourself with people that love and care for you, those who cherish you and have and will always help you with your mental health are the ones you need around you at this point in your life🌸
