I have been replaced.
My ( I hoped so) best friend found someone better than me. It really hurts. I told him I was afraid he would leave me for someone else. And year later, he did. I can't even try to forget him because I see him almost every day, as we are classmates. And every day I see him spending all the time with his new friend. What's making thing worse is that I can't even talk to him, the conversations we have are nothing what they used to be. I don't know what to do. I probably have to wait for an end.
@Skoglandskap
Oh no, that's so sad. :( I'm so sorry. Sending you a big virtual hug!
In middle school, a similar thing happened to me (my best friend just from one day to the next stopped talking to me and had a new best friend), so I can empathize with your feelings somewhat. You're not alone with such incidents, if that is any comfort.
Feeling you have been replaced is an awful thing to experience. Let me tell you that you are not worth any less because someone doesn't appreciate you for who you are anymore/as they used to.
If "doing something", becoming active about your situation, would make you feel better - how would you feel about telling your friend that you feel neglected? Sometimes people don't realize it if they spend time only with one of their friends and "forget" about the others, so he might not even be aware of how you feel. (I have a friend who tends to be that way sometimes, that's why it came to my mind.)
You could say something like, for example, "I feel like you've been distant/avoiding me the last days/weeks. Is there a reason for that?" If he didn't mean to cut ties with you, I'm pretty sure he'll realize he was being one-sided. And otherwise, you'll have clarity about what happened and why - if this information would help you, it might be worth a shot.
Whether you try to talk to him about how you feel or not is your decision of course - when I was in the actual situation back then, I'm pretty sure I would have felt too insecure to do it. ^^;
Maybe you'd also like to talk to a listener about this for more support? (I'll be happy to listen to you, too, but I am "just" a member.)
Whatever you choose to do, I hope you feel better soon and find someone again who appreciates you - whether it's your best friend after making up or a different person. :) Good luck and all the best!
A year ago my girlfriend of 5 years left me, we were very close and had plans to get a place together and everything was super. She left me so suddenly, grew cold and distant in the last month of us being together, I'll never really know why. She had said she wanted some time alone so we stayed as friends for a while, I had hoped whatever was wrong would pass and that we'd overcome it and get back together again, but this was not the case - a couple of months later I found that she was seeing someone else, it completely destroyed me and I cut off all contact with her, I couldn't bear the thought of her being with someone else, all my hopes were dashed, I had thought we'd grow old together.
With her went all my friends too, I grew distant with them after I graduated uni - partly because I was focused on starting a life with my girlfriend, and that some of them moved away, and I've always been an introvert and never felt like I belonged to the group, always the one trailing behind, never inviting me anywhere and doing things without me.
Things only feel like they're getting worse. I have tried to get back into activities that I used to enjoy, as well as trying new activities in hopes of meeting new people. I feel like I'll always been alone, at my age it's very difficult to meet new people, more so when you live in a small city where there's nothing to do. Living in a small city also means there's very little opportunity, the only jobs I can get are things like retail, jobs where I have to pretend to be happy, and it just makes me feel worse.
@girafa I am so sorry that this is happening to you. I know it doesn't really compare, but my boyfriend of over a year left me suddenly a few days ago. You're not alone, and it's okay to not be happy. At a retail job, you are kind of being forced to put on a happy face, but if it gets to be too much, maybe take a bathroom break or something and just be sad or angry or heartbroken or whatever it is you need to keep going. You're not alone, don't forget that
@Green57 @girafa
Goodness gracious, why are people such butt holes? Had the same situation happen as well. Ex left me suddenly after five years and was seeing someone less than two weeks after not speaking to me for four months (we were still supposedly together as well)! Was completely ghosted, I never got a proper explanation for what happened (besides being a massive coward). I felt like such a fool and was totally devastated.
What makes people think that is perfectly fine, I'll never know....my sympathies to you both.
@girafa, I'm going through this now . My off and on boyfriend of almost 8 years left me for his ex. He lied and told me he was going outta town for a "party" but I put clues together and found out he was in this college town staying with her . I feel so hurt bc we were just good last week . Now he has my number blocked and ignored all my texts and calls bc I confronted him about lying . I feel if I didn't confront him , he was just gonna come home and act normal , now that I have said something , I feel he's takin the easy way out by just ignoring and pretending I don't exist . It hurts. We've been thru so much together and also made plans for the future . All I can do now is pray he will come to his senses one day bc I can't imagine our lives apart
It sucks that other people have experienced the same thing, people can be horrible. It's also reassuring that I'm not alone in this, and I appreciate you sharing your experiences.
As of now the only way of coping with my problems is to just not think about them and distract myself with TV shows, and making art and music. I don't think I'll ever find love again, but I wouldn't mind some friends to talk to to help keep my mind off things.
@girafa
I might make another thread for everyone here that's going through something similar. If anyone would like to be tagged in this new thread that is struggling with a breakup, let me know! I think there is strength in numbers and being able to share our experiences or when you're having a rough day and need support may help
@TrueArrow that definitely sounds like something we need, thank you
@Green57 I tagged you in the thread
My boyfriend of around 15 months, who is also my best friend, broke up with me yesterday because he feels that we don't connect like we used to, but what really happened is that we both have a lot of things happening in our lives (his mom is terminally ill, my dad abandoned me, and my mom and stepdad are getting divorced). He wants to still be friends, and I want that too, but I am struggling because I am still in love with him. We still care for each other and need to be there for each other, but no relationship. I need any advice I can get on how to get over him and stop feeling this pain and anxiety. I can't even eat anymore and I'm afraid I'm going to start having health problems. I can't stop thinking about him. I open my phone constantly to absentmindedly tell him I love him or I miss him and I realize I can't anymore, it breaks my heart. I really need someone to talk to.
@Green57 I'm in the same boat as you my fiancé left me last year he couldn't cope with my health problems , I still love him and want to get back with him
@Popbabe2410 how have you been coping? I really need some good coping methods
@Green57 I'm not sure really been struggling to cope I'm still in touch with my fiancé and we're friends . I suppose I can only suggest try and find something else to focus on
@Popbabe2410 since it's fairly new, all I've been thinking about is the stuff I'll miss out on. All the times he used to pick me up bridal style and spin me around, all the times we held hands in the car, all the times he put his arm around me, the times when I was sad and he held me, all the naps we took together, every time we cuddled, all the kisses I won't get, every time he looked at me like I was his world-- the look he only gave to me, the smile on his face when I was excited to see him, the cute compliments he would give me, all the times he called me beautiful, all the times he called me his princess or the love of his life... I cried today when my family went to McDonald's for lunch because my boyfriend and I went there for breakfast once and we sat 2 booths away. I swear I literally saw him and me sitting there like we had, a smile on his face while he laughed about the way I put the jam on the biscuit. I saw us as the happy couple we were and then it just faded and it hurt so bad. I was completely blindsided by this and I don't feel like it's ever going to get better. As someone who is going through this as well, does it ever get any better?
@Green57 hard too say I'm still pining for him now I keep seeing him everywhere and remembering things
@Popbabe2410 I totally understand. I'll pray for you, I hope your situation improves! Keep going!
I feel numb. It's like there are all of these things that I should be feeling and they're just starting at me through a window.
I keep repeating things in my head and I can't make it stop sometimes. I don't know what to do.
@faithfulNectarine2590
I know exactly what you mean. I'm not entirely sure but it feels like a form of ocd to me. My obsessive thinking tends to be much worse when I go through a depression cycle. Does that sound similar to what you feel?
I'm feeling a little sad today...and a lot of days lately. I feel like any control I have over my life is being stripped away from me. I feel like most of the things I care about have been stripped away from me, or like I don't care about them anymore. I feel very alone. I have no energy. I think I'm slipping into my depression again.
@RosyOctopus, I totally understand how you feel. Especially since I'm a person so used to being in control . I'm trying not to be depressed and think of the bright side but it's extremely hard knowing you don't have any control
Im feeling sad. My relationship is slipping away. Ive had really bad temper problems. My boyfriend has drug issues and i dont know whats going on or whats making it happen. I have a feeling its me. I dont know what to do anymore. I wamt to be normal and have a good relationship. :(
@wonderfulVision44
Hi
Please believe me, it's not you. It's your boyfriend who have drugs issues, that may exacerbate your bad tempers. Do you think you're happy with your life with your boyfriend in it? It does take 2 to make a relationship work but most of the time, the person who don't make another happy can mess things up between them. If I am wrong then I apologise. If not, u need time away to give u head space and think about what you would like to do.
@UnwantedChick
We live together and have a daughter together. If i had a way out, i would take it. I just dont know what to do anymore.
Loosing friends cuz they didn't like me much. No friends and no best mate and no one cares. I'm not worth any thing anymore.
@UnwantedChick
i used to feel as if I had no worth too
but everyone has worth somebody on here told me that and I remember it helped me.
you have worth because you are alive and struggling to live that alone gives you worth.
I've felt a bit sad in the past week. Could be menstrual related, could be depression. I think I'm just stuck in a routine with a need to spice things up.
@safeandsoundta I'm in my menstural phase too (started 24 hours ago) which explains part of my depression phase atm. :C During that, I have little to no productivity until least halfway through the mess. ;w;
@Pikashuppet Sorry to hear that you're feeling awful for the same reason! I hate feeling like this. But I hope you start feeling better real soon
@safeandsoundta Same .w. I hate being this sick and crying for 3 days straight as of today.
@Pikashuppet That sounds awful. My period gets me emotional, too :/
Missing my bf who is depressed and isolating
