First counselling session
My first counselling session is tomorrow & I've been struggling internally the whole of today as to whether I should cancel. Chickening out would be far too easy at this stage
I hope it goes well for you. I've seen your other posts in the forum about this big step you're taking for yourself to overcome troubles that you've put up with for such a long time and that seem to be getting worse recently. I also hope you've found listeners here you can talk to about the counselling both before and after the session. If you'd like to talk to me about it feel free to message me.
@Tinyheart
@Tinyheart first of all, you should be proud of yourself for setting up this appointment - the act of searching for a counselor, reaching out to them, and setting up a time to meet can be difficult in itself and you've already done it! That being said, deciding to seek out help is a big step and I understand it can be frightening. I'm not sure what you're going through, but the thought of disclosing personal details of your life to anyone, especially a stranger, is stressful to think about, so your feelings are understandable. Although it could potentially be really rewarding as well. Whether you decide to go through with your appointment or not (which is entirely up to you, you know your needs best) here are some things that might be helpful to consider:
-what is it in particular that is causing you to question this decision? what are you worried might happen if you go?
-what would be the pros and cons of going to your appointment?
-what would be the pros and cons of canceling?
-what are you hoping to get out of counseling?
I know the thought of this appointment is overwhelming, but I hope that whatever you decide to do, you make a decision that brings you the most peace possible. Perhaps if you are feeling particularly nervous, you could make a list of talking points to bring with you for your appointment, or even bring a trusted friend or family member along with you for support.
Feel free to reach out if you'd like to discuss it further, and know that I'm sending good thoughts your way. I believe you have the courage to go through with this appointment and get the help that you're seeking!
