Fluctuating depression? Is this normal?
We all have some really hard days, but for me I'll have a pretty decent streak of feeling happy, but then it all boils over and I have one long, long crying session leading to some thoughts I'm not the proudest of to say the least. This sadness might be gone by the next morning or it might last through the next week or two. Maybe more.
I was diagnosed with depression in the past, which was treated with medication, and I got a bit better. I'm off the meds now, but I'm not completely sure if this is normal or if this is just minor relapses or what. If I'm just being over-dramatic that would be better than knowing I'd have to go get medicine again, but I don't know how normal the extent of how intense the sadness gets is, if that makes any sense.
Sorry if this is troubling or is a waste of your time.
You're not troubling anyone here. What you're experiencing is normal and quite common and I can relate to you. Depression affects everyone differently, some have good and bad days, others are constantly in a low mood that doesn't fluctuate much. If you can safely manage the darker days without medication, then you do not need to go on them. 😏
@VioletLoneliness
I think anyone can have hard days, but depression comes when hard days turns hard seasons...even hard life...I'm struggling with depression years ago, I'm not an expert but surely and from the bottom... I UNDERSTAND U...
Anything can be normal with depression, as it is a very complex disorder that doesn't have many clearly defined lines. If this continues happening, you could always mention it to someone such as your doctor. They may know more about disorders and such than someone would here, and could be able to assist you greater than 7 Cups. Of course, it is always your choice :) I wish you luck in managing this, and want to tell you you are a very strong, brave person for combating this.
@VioletLoneliness, I was diagnosed with depression about 26 years ago. I've always had the ups and downs. They're normal. Sometimes the feelings of depression will last minutes or hours, sometimes days or weeks, sometimes months. The key is to know that it's normal and to have strategies and activities that you know will help you tackle that depression and get back on track. If you ever feel that it becomes too severe or lasts for too long, don't hesitate to talk to the health professional who works with you for depression. Remember that you're not alone.

Thank you for sharing this because I think you'll find that this is something that a lot of people can relate to.
I know that personally, I had much the same, however my cycles would be over weeks or months, i.e. great for 2 weeks, average for 4 weeks, then depressed for 4 weeks, then back to great again. Always consistent and always regular. Once I worked that out, I could understand my triggers and began managing them to break the cycle.
It's different for everyone but hopefully you can find some answers here. All the best!
@VioletLoneliness Please never feeling like you are troubling anyone or wasting people's time by posting here. This is the reason this site was created. :)
Hey there @VioletLoneliness.
Thank you for reaching out to 7Cups, we're here to Listen and Support you. Writing this post was not a waste of our time, nor troubling at all. I highly appreciate you for reaching out to here, and rather not bottle up how you're feeling internally. It is true that we all have some bad days, or sometimes not our best days. It sounds like you'll have a decent streak of feeling happy, but then it ends up boiling over you leading to thoughts that you're not proud of - and this sadness can last until the next morning, or may even last until the following week, or week after.
It sounds like you were diagnosed with depression in the past, and you were treated with Medications which seemed to help you a little better. You did mention that you were off of the Medications now, was there a specific reason, or reasons to why you stopped using these Medications? It also seems like you've been feeling even more depressed now that you don't have your Medications to help you, if that's what you were trying to write out. If I am correct about that, it seems like you might have found the Medications to help you feel less depressed. Of course, I'm not a Doctor nor a Physician - but I'd recommend you check back in with them, or whom you think would be appropiate to bring this attention to.
Thanks again for being so strong, and writing out to here. I hope you have an amazing week, and things get better for you.
:)
