How can I temporarily push down my annoying negative self dialogue?

Yeah I know it’s wrong to push your feelings down rather than confront them.

However the next couple weeks of my life are very pivotal and stressful, so my full short-term focus, time, effort and mindpower are dedicated fully to that.

So of course my mind reckons this is a perfect time to sink down an unrelated pit of extreme self-hate and very negative self dialogue. Pardon my French, but I don’t need this sh*t now of all times.

How can I get my brain to pipe down and shut up for the next couple of weeks at least till this pivotal moment of my life is sorted?

Thank you.

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that you are going through some stressful times.

Getting out brain to pipe down can certainly be difficult at times.

Some people find hobbies to be a great distraction.

Additionally, for me, I have took to likening practicing mindfulness.

The site provides some very calming mindfulness exercises if you are open to it<3

All the best💛✨

@skob11

I appreciate the insights.

It's sort of a paradox - we push out negative thoughts and they get more intense - so the idea is to sort of normalize the problematic thought and find ways to almost sit beside it? By doing that, the bad thoughts go away eventually. Thus, normalization is one way of approaching it, alongside distractions, mindfulness, reframing, etc.

Reframing might mean looking at a situation in two different ways - for example, a more neutral way and a positive way - it's okay if positivity doesn't come naturally - but neutral thinking is more of a realistic middle ground.

I hope that helps in your journey.
