I'm not allowed to be ill
Hi! I have been suffering from some symptoms of manic depression for awhile. I have times when I don't know how to deal with my emotions, and I might turn happy to angry in seconds and get frustrated really easily. I may have even months when I'm full of energy and will to live my life on, but I also have seasons when I found myself sad for seemingly no reason and really unmotivated to do anything that would have made me excited before. Due my depression periods I no more have any friends. It's something I can cope with. What makes me really sad is that I know that I'm feeling empty and I'm feeling wrong. It drives me crazy to know that even I try to get myself out of this hell, nothing will work. And it scares me to death to think that maybe it's just me, maybe it's just inside of my head and nothing's actually wrong. My parents and my teacher don't believe me because "since I do so well in school and work I simply can't be sick". I'm intelligent person and a straight A-student who have interest to graduate psychologist degree in university , so apparently I can't be suffering from any mental disorder. Even I have started to come into that conclusion; I must not think I'm ill. Maybe it'll go away then.
Daido i am sorry to hear what you going through. You know yourself better then other one. Not getting the understanding and recognition for the difficulties you are going through must be frustrating.
Because people's disbelief is making it hardfor you to get the treatment and support you needare thereways for you to get aprofessional diagnosis? By having it on paper no doubter can deny what you are going through.
Well, since I'm still underage for a few month it's really hard to get a professional diagnosis when I won't get referral to psychologist from our school, and my family refuse to believe I'm not feeling well. It's funny how everybody thinks that doubting mental disorder is some kind of excuse for me to lack of motivation and being grumpy. Even my teacher is suspicious, and he knows very well that I finished my national psychology examination with the best grade - and I have never fooled around with this kind of stuff, never skipped classes, never cheated, nevercontradicted.
im sorry to hear that you are being told that you are not allowed to be sick because of your intelligence etc. to be honest, i know people who have experienced the same thing before. i want you to know that even the most intelligent, friendliest, happiest looking people struggle from mental health issues. that is OK. if you need to find support or see a doctor please dont let this stop you. you deserve to get the treatement you feel you need.
Thanks for such a nice words and support! It's really hard to think that you are right and you need help when everybody else around you is calling you a liar. I'm not sure if my family is scared to face the truth, but I can say that I surely am. I don't want to mental disorder to be diagnosed, but it doesn't take away thoughts about it being part of me, distracting my life and relationships. For now, only way I found out is getting help.
i'm so sorry that the people in your life aren't supportive of you -- it's not fair at all that they're treating you this way. it's absolutely possible to suffer from depression (and any number of other mental disorders!) even while getting excellent grades in school. i hope that when you turn eighteen you're able to get a referral to a counselor or a psychologist who can help to diagnose you.
in the meantime, though, hang in there! i can't imagine how frustrated you are and i know it has to be doubly frustrating to be told to "just hang on", but right now that seems to be all you can do. fortunately you're not alone - there are people all over this website who care and who would be more than willing to listen and try to help you work through your problems.
i wish you all the best and i'm always willing to talk if you'd like to inbox me any messages.
Yeah, I'm trying my best. Sometimes it is just so hard to get up in the morning and smile, but somehow I know it will get better and I will get treatment and support. 7 Cups of Tea have helped me a lot and I will visit here every time I feel sad or frustrated or angry, and have all these great people around me, listening.
Thank you, too, for that. I will keep your offer in my mind, when I feel upset!
I know exactly how you feel! I'm sorry that your parents don't believe or support you for the fact you have depression. My parents are the exact same way. They believe that I'm happy al the time. But they didn't know I was actually mentally killing myself. Depression and a mood disorder can be a drag sometimes Just so you know, your not alone! There are many people in the same situation, I support you all the way! Stay strong! Fighting!
You are not alone. The situation you're in sucks, it really does, and I'm sad to see someone else in it. I was a straight A-student too, and no one believed me when I was saying that something was wrong. Even though it's tough, don't ignore it. Get whatever help you can, like talking to people on here, and don't give up. Manic depression is a real thing, and it manifests in different ways - some people (like you) still manage to do well in school or at work. It's great that you do, but yeah... depression and other mental illnesses are very real, and we're all here for you.
I am sorry that you are going through this.
I'm so sorry you're going through this, but know you're not alone. I can relate so well to your situation. Nobody understands it, or even tries to, they treat us like we're freaks but you know what? Sometimes it's ok to not be ok & if you need a friend, I'm here for you.
