In a fog
I feel lonely, now my kids are grown with their own families. I rarely see or talk to them. I send messages now and then, with little or no response. When they do respond it's like weeks later. I spent most of my time working or going to school to support my kids as a single mom. And I dont have money to show for it, I feel I am going to be working the rest of my life to be able to survive. I'm coming up on my 50th birthday and it makes me more depressed. I feel like an empty shell. Many nights I lay in bed, just wanting someone to talk.

You've sacrificed so much of your life to give your children what they needed to succeed in life, and now, you're met with a heavy loneliness and concern for the present/future. What you're experiencing sounds like it must be really emotionally taxing. I'm not sure where you live but sites like 211.org exist to share resources that are relevant to your needs. Becoming aware of what resources your country/state/city/town have to offer could really help take some of the load off your shoulders.
If I may leave one last suggestion here, would it be possible for you to connect more with your community? Whether that be participating in community events, or volunteering for nearby non-profit organizations. It sounds like getting in touch with the people around you would be really beneficial. You aren't alone in this.
If you prefer an online format, our 35+ SubCom has incredible leaders and members who participate! So does our 50+ SubCommunity, as well. Each title is clickable and will take you directly to those pages. We're really a pretty cool bunch, I'm glad you reached out for support here.
Wishing you the very best.
