Mornings
Anyone got any advice on how to cope with morning depression?
I really struggle with getting up each morning. I delay for as long as I can, and recently I’ve had several days where I have not been able to get up until after noon. My counsellor has advices creating a mood/dream board for inspiration but my depression is preventing me from doing that. So I need another approach.
@Leopold57 What are you saying to yourself in the morning when you get up? I don’t mean the “common get up” messages, I mean the ones that might be keeping you in bed.
I generally don’t want to face the day. I don’t want to have to deal with the same emotions and negative thoughts day after day. At the moment I am really down and can’t find any positives in the morning to make myself get up. I work from home a lot and once my daughter (13) has left for school it’s just me in the house all day.
@Leopold57 Depression comes from our thoughts. Specific thoughts, but very common thoughts such as “I’ve never done anything useful in my life, I’ll never be loved, I’m such a loser.” There are really useful tools to get out of these thought patterns. My guess is those thoughts might be playing a larger role than just being home or not feeling energy after the house is empty. You can of course do things like force yourself to get outside and other changes to your environment and those might help somewhat. This might help https://youtu.be/H1T5uMeYv9Q

I can relate. Some days it's hard for me to get started. Other days it's hard for me to keep doing something. Things I need to do are piling up and then I feel worse.
One thing I've started doing lately is making a list of just one or two things to do that day. Small things or an effort at something larger. I'm also including reminders to myself to help with my mindset.
As I get a few things done, it's helping to alleviate the stress and guilt. Even if I don't accomplish what I set out to do, I know if I've tried. One day at a time.
Mornings can be really hard. There are many such days when I struggle to get out of bed. However, I have noticed that I also tend to overthink. What helped me was playing some podcast which I like or some play some audio stories which interest me Or just lay in bed and listen to peppy songs . I felt that took my attention off from my thoughts and changed my mood. Try and see if it is of any help to you.
@Leopold57 Mornings can be difficult, even when you are not depressed. Can you think of anything that might motivate you? I hope that you are giving yourself enough time for quality sleep. Just do the best that you can. Small improvements can add to a big change.
@Leopold57 Mornings can be touph however is it possible you could go for a walk in the fresh air ? This is a great way to start the day and can improve your mood 😀

Hello, Leopold, I understand what you are feeling, even though each person copes differently, I also used to have a lot of difficulties to get up. Talking to my counsellor, we found out that thinking one step at a time was the better approach for me, since I kept stressing out about all the things I had to do. So I started to think that I was only going to sit on bed and drink water, after that I would think about what I would do next. I don't know if it is something that could help you, but it is something that helped me a lot when I was struggling with depression.
Sometimes getting up is really hard, it can be really difficult to wake up every morning, but you are doing it, you are doing what you can. I hope you get better soon.
Take care.

Hi leo, I find it better to have a morning routine, up at the same time everyday. and watch something funny on tv. until i come around and start my day
Hi Leopold, I wish I had advice for you, but I don't. I can however commiserate with you as I too have the same issues in the mornings. My thoughts always seem to center around work and how I just don't want to do it. I feel like work keeps me from enjoying life, and have built up a very problematic resentment for it due to that.
I hope you can find the relief you're seeking.
Well, just plan how you will enjoy yourself before morning and you will definitely look forward to it.

Hello Leopold57, I understand you have been struggling with some morning depression. I hope you have taken the time to read some of the responses below. I hope you have managed to get sufficient sleep.
I would like to add that you could try writing down positive affirmations every morning can assist in shifting this headspace to one that is more positive as you start the day.
