My parents honestly don't care.

Told my parents about my self harm and depression on Friday and all they said was "You have no reason to be depressed or hurt yourself. Besides it's just a phase, you'll grow out of it. Also, I don't want to put you on medication." They didn't even ask me if I was okay or if I needed help. They didn't even give me a fucking hug!! This is the second time I told them that I wasn't okay and they still don't believe me. They don't care and it fucking hurts. All I want to do is kill myself. No one would care or notice.
I'm so done with this life. I can't do this anymore.

Mind if I ask why? Is just talking with your parents making it worse?

Just talking in general about myself or my problems to other people just complicate things. I feel like they don't care. They always push it aside...

Hey sz12345,

I'm really sorry to hear how your parents have reacted to your problems. I know it sucks and it is really awful to not get the much needed care from our parents. But the thing is, we cannot change the way they think. I know things are really difficult for you, and that sort of reaction from your parents is making you feel even worse. But hang in there. Please. This is not at all easy, and you're honestly so, so strong for having dealt with all these things. Keep trying for a little longer. I won't say it'll get better because I'm sure that's not what you want to hear, but I will tell you that it doesn't have to be this way forever.

I have depression and it sucks. I know that sometimes life is not worth the pain we go through. But don't give in just now. You've been doing this for all this time, go on for a little longer. I care about you.

Please PM me. I would love to talk to you.

I'm trying to be strong, it's just really hard when you have no support or care from anyone...

I know, and that's so great of you to keep trying. :) I understand that not having support during these kind of times can make moving forward harder, but at least you're trying. And that's all that matters. This is not about how your parents don't care, it's about YOU and your life. So keep going just for yourself. Like I said, PM me anytime you want.

Take care. xo

Im sorry for what happened to you. I know it sucks to know people who supposed to care about you, dont. I've once in the same position as yours, my mom & sister notice my self harm scars, but they wasnt sure of it, so they asked me out. I decided to refuse to answer it, and my mom is not even trying to know further. Worse than that, my sister was kind of making fun of it. It sucks. And really youre not supposed to feel what you feel. And even though maybe mine wasnt like yours, but i kind of get it. And it must be feel so lonely and hopeless without having any support. But i am here for you. We are here for you. So please dont try to kill yourself, you wouldnt know if your parents really dont care about you. I know, they truly look like they wouldnt want to understand you at all or seem to not caring about you even a little bit. But if you kill yourself, i wouldnt promise they would be ok about it, dont you think? But anyway, live for YOU. Dont live for anyone else, cause someday they may seem to not care about us anymore and we'd have no reason to live. So dont, dont let it happen. However, i & people here wants you to live and is willing to give you the best support we could give to you. Stay strong!

I know how you feel my mom don't care about me either, she is always with my little brother or her boyfriend, and my dad... i can't talk to him for 3 years... moving on im sorry. I'm here for you

My dad was the same way. I beleieve mostly because he doesnt know what to do. He never knew what to do unless someone else helped him. Also as a boy growing up, he had to be tough. My mom on the other hand, she hardly knew me but when I showed even the slightest sign of depression, you got me help. I think the difference is that my dad was raised with parents who were ashamed of mental illness. That resinates through generations. It took me a long time to not feel ashamed of what I am. Honestly I still struggle with it. My mother on the other hand doesmt want to see others go through the same thing she did. She got help and she knows how to get help for other. Maybe your parent really dont care. Maybe they are too tired to care. Or maybe your parent dont know what to do. Maybe they dont want to realize their baby is really depressed Maybe they are depressed to and havent reach out for help. Maybe no one knows, but just remember we are all humans too Talk to your counsulors at school. Talk to a friend or their parents. If your looking for help but dont know what to do, you need to talk to someone and ask for answers. If you have insurance, find your card and call your doctor. If you dont have insurance, call your county's human assistance department.

It's a shame that your parents reacted in such an uncompassionate way, but I must commend you for the courage that it must have took for you to tell them. It's important to be honest about your feelings, especially now that you're considering suicide.

Keep safe, my friend. Like those before me, you can PM me anytime, and I'd be happy to talk with you. (:

I know exactly how you feel. Im currently in the same exact position. My mom found out about my self harm by seeing my fresh cuts and she didn't even console me or ask me if I was in okay. All she did was threaten to call 911 and bring me to the hospital or to make me live with someone else. A d I literally was soon frustrated and I wanted to end it all too. But, we got to remember that not everyone is going to understand. And really I'm surw our parents love us inside and out. They're just looking out for us. That's all. Have your tried dicussing what you feel about their response to your parents? Hey how about you contact me and we can talk! How all goes well. Stay strong

Hey SZ,

when I read your post I could feel how hurt you are. I've been working with my psychologist to get over that same issue as well. I remember once when I asked my mother when I was a teenager to see a psychologist, she immediately snapped, "Why! You don't have anything to worry about! You don't have any real problems!" I think this is a way for parents to feel as if they raised you right and they have to take no blame for anything they messed up.

People are imperfect and it's really hard to communicate your feelings but, you were very brave to post this. Thanks so much for sharing and don't worry, we'll all be here for you if your parents aren't.

Thank you so much gentlewaters. Hopefully they'll come around. I feel like the only time they'll believe me is if I'm literally having a mental break down...

Thank you so much to everyone supporting me. You guys are truly amazing. <3

Hey SZ, sorry for the late reply but hopefully it doesn't come to you needing a breakdown to show them how much you're hurting.

Don't forget to rely on other family members or friends if you can't trust your parents.

We're happy to help! <3 Feel free to keep venting whenever you need to.

That's exactly why I don't tell for my parents, besides the fact I don't like them. I'm passing for something similar so that's why I have nothing to say except good luck :)
