I seem to be overthinking all the time and getting more depressed and having a hard time coming out of it.

What do you do to stop overthinking.

Overthinking can be really draining. One thing that helps is focusing on the present, taking deep breaths, or even writing down your thoughts. It might not fix everything, but it can help break the cycle. I’m here if you want to talk more about it

@Loveyourfate

I'm glad you opened about it and I understand how you feel , overthinking is really exhausting. I can't really advice you as I don't know what works for you but personally I do things that help me not to overthink like listening to music, reading novels, repeating that I won't let my thoughts rule me . You could try doing things that help you when you feel stuck in your thoughts.

@Loveyourfate

Hey just take a deep breath , just slow down the racing thoughts and mind . It's just making you tired and depressed. Give yourself 10 minutes everyday in the morning for meditation you will definitely feel better 😊

@Loveyourfate well, I've gone through something familiar. So what  got me out of this is, that I started to realize that these thinking is getting me nowhere but stuck in it. Despite the fact about what's actually happening , i was more focused on what could have happened or will be. So I decided to focus on what's happening. still if i couldn't stop over thinking I'll give body some works. keep me distracted, I'll go for walk, dance or whatever. Eventually it worked for me.. and writing it and reading it also work, cause i'll be laughing at it when i read thinking, seriously, is this what i am worrying about ? haha

@Loveyourfate

Sometimes it's easy for me to float into different thoughts, sometimes it almost feels like I'obsessed and I have to play back everything in my head. What I do is open a up Notepad on my computer, or my email account, a journal, a note in my phone, and just brain dump. I just put down everything that is in my brain. When I feel that I'm satisfied with what I just put down, I tell myself that I just thought everything out, I worked it out, and it belongs THERE, not in my brain. THEN, I focus on some pleasant things. Watch a movie I love that will take me out of my mind and into the story. Call a friend to laugh about something silly. Take a shower and enjoy the warm water. Do some scrapbooking, or maybe have a nice chat with someone online. :)

@Loveyourfate If you ask me what I do to stop overthinking, I try to divert my mind which is an art and I believe we all must be an artist in this regard. I love reading first I give a try to it, if it doesn't work out I go for music, listening raps and very disco type music, there's another option as well cooking for me. And a talk with a person it could be your family member, friend or even an stranger.

@Loveyourfate Overthinking is a really serious problem; in fact, I myself struggled with it for a long time. First of all, it's great that you've already recognized the problem, so I'll just share some of the tips that helped me in overcoming it. (1) I usually wrote down the exact sentences when I was overthinking. I'd write down every single thought coming to my mind, and then I'd read it. Most of the time, just reading it made me laugh, because it was barely a problem, and my mind was just playing games. (2) When you realize you're overthinking, splash cold water on your face or shout out loudly, "STOP OVERTHINKING." Trust me, it sounds funny, but it really works. Another thing you can try is to ask yourself Can you do anything about this problem? For eg, if you're overthinking whether the new people at your college will like you. Ask yourself, can I do something about it? Yes, you could be kind and sweet, and have an approachable aura. The next thought would be, "What will I do if they still don't like me?" Ask yourself, "Can I do something if they just don't like me?" "No," then give up, because it's useless thinking about something you can't control, and just put in the work if you can control it. Hope it helps!

Having been through this, I can relate to it. One tends to feel trapped in a vicious cycle but good news is you can come out of it. As other members have rightly pointed out one common thing - distraction. Worked in my case when I reconnected to my reading habit. It took care of negative thoughts. Everybody has some hobbies. Wishing you all the best.

@Loveyourfate Your thoughts keep piling up and making everything feel heavier, which can be really hard to break out of. What helps me is grounding myself with something simple like slow breaths or noticing things around me to pull my mind out of the spiral. I also try to question whether the thought is actually helping me, and if it’s not, I gently redirect my focus to something I can control.

@Loveyourfate one good way to stop overthinking is distractions. Do things that grabs your attention and mind of things that are bothering you. Hobbies like playing video games, taking walks or exercises will minimize overthinking
