Sorry to Burst your Bubble

Imagine yourself in a bubble. Your bubble doesn't float skywards, it remains motionless on the floor, stationary and stuck. Nothing seems to be able to burst your bubble, not your friends, not your family, not even your therapist. Yet everyday you sit in your bubble, you hope that something will happen. That this new day will be the day that your bubble will burst. This all consuming dark bubble will pop and you will be set free. Then there comes a day where after all of these days or weeks or years of you waiting in your bubble you realise that in your pocket is a pin. After all this time of relying on the external, it was you and you alone that could set you free. Now you have the choice, do you decide to push through and burst into life and persist through its' ups and downs? Or do you put that pin back in your pocket and remain within the iridescent home of your bubble? And the fact that that second option is even considerable, is why depression can be so debilitating. In the end it's up to you.

@sunshinekatie That's an interesting insight. Yet, its very similar to what depression feels like. We feel too comfortable inside our bubble. Yes, We have the pin. But, sometimes we need support, motivation from external sources, to actually do it. smiley

@sunshinekatie This is an amazing work of prose. I'm so glad you decided to share it with us. I think it's the perfect metaphor for what depression can feel like. Depression is such a cruel master. It makes us forget that we are in control of our lives and not it. For me, it happened just like this. I was in therapy for a long time and I remember the day I looked at my therapist and said, I think I'm happy now. I feel like my depression is gone. And a sun beam shined through the window. My bubble had popped because I had worked hard to make it pop. For some people though, it just doesn't happen like that. I hope that you'll continue writing and if you are suffering from depression, I hope you can burst your bubble some day as well. Again, thank you.

Hi there,

That was a really good post. Really does go to show that WE can burst the bubble and escape. But this takes confidence and seeing ourseleves as wonderful amazing being like we are. This was an amazing reminder thank you
