Why does no one take a second to realize that I am struggling.

My friends and family diregard anything I might say about my depression and anxiety. I try to tell them I have a problem and that what they are saying isn't okay. No one will listen. No one understands.

I understand definitely. The lack of support is really discouraging as well.

@iz1219 coming out of depression is slow process so believing in people who do not understand would be a waste of time . If you wanna talk about your problems you can message me smiley

Hi @iz1219,

I'm sorry you have to go through this depression battle. It's hell, especially when you have no support.

I can relate, there are some people in my family who don't really understand and even recognise depression as an illness. And I reckon that is one of the biggest problems - it often leads to stigmatising all the mental health sufferers.

I'd give talking another go. Perhaps provide your close ones with how you feel (e.g. I'm sad/depressed/anxious/hopeless because...), some resources and facts on your issues (for example this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-IR48Mb3W0 or this https://www.7cups.com/forum/DepressionSupportCommunity_52/Depression_30/Youdontnecessarilyneedtounderstandyoujusthavetobepresent_28342/ ). It can be anything, medical health centre resources, theses on depression, forums, helplines, blogs, 7cups self-help guides and mindfulness exercises. The Internet is full of free resources, you might want to do some research and find something that would speak to you.

To my mind, not many people feel comfortable talking about depression and supporting sufferers, mainly beacuse thy don't know how to do it. And often, they're not acquainted with the facts on mental health issues. (Many people don't know how to listen and just be present in today's world, so I guess it also makes it all harder.) I'd also say, if you can't rely on someone you need at the moment, go seek a professional. They're experienced and distanced from you emotionally, so hopefully, you could get some support and perceive your issue from a different perspective.

Wishing you all the best and the greatest support that you deserve <3
