how can i overcome self-hate?
does anybody have any tips on what helps you overcome self-hate? i know it's probably "just the depression talking" but that's not what it feels like. it feels very real. i feel stupid because i'm academically behind and concentrate on my studies. i feel like a failure because i can't even maintain my already unhealthily underweight weight and i can't bring myself to eat. i don't understand why other people like me because i can't find anything good about myself. i hate myself so much. how can i overcome this or at least feel a bit better?
@gumeimi
I'm sorry you are having these feelings. It's overwhelming when that dialogue starts in our heads and it does seem to distract efforts else where in our lives.
I found Mindfulness helpful with the "weather patterns of the mind". We have a mindfulness community here that offers tips and discussions as well as resource materials and some really supportive people. I found it helpful understanding part of the talk that was happening - the negative speak - was something that could be addressed with mindfulness techniques. We don't have to give power to these thoughts/words - we can arm ourselves with ways to pause it, evaluate it, replace it and change how I react to it. You're welcometo come join us and prowl around >> https://www.7cups.com/home/mindfulness/?rid=218306145
I think its dissecting these thoughts/words and even taking a bit of an emperical approach to it -- where does this "I'm stupid" come from? Does this saying have merit? (Yes Column/No Column) This "I'm Stupid" isn't me - I have the facts on paper to prove it - so this isn't me, I don't have to own it. Looking at the list - I"m pretty smart - so No, I"m not stupid as I have accomplished X, Y, and Z. It's kind of like taking the negative speak - and arguing it down. I'm not sure this works for everyone -- but tearing down the negative speak this way has broken a few of them for me lately. Take the negative speak - replace it with fact - I'm not stupid, I have two degrees - if I did that, I can't be stupid.
I may think on this more and come back with some more ideas -- mindfulness has been the biggest help so far for me.
Hi and welcome to the forums. Really nice to meet you.
I know exactly how you feel . Self hate is one of us most humans ways we hate about ourselves and what helps to challenge us. This is pretty common in our daily life.
We are all different and think and feel different ways . There's days we feel bad and days we feel good . It's part of our life .
Sometimes we have situations or thoughts what get to us and it can take over how we see ourselves but when it gets too much we end feeling hurt, so hurt that we view everything in different light .
We then discover things can't go on and we need to change. Therefore in order to ask what can we need to change ourselves first.
To answer your question yes there is hope we can feel better and overcome this. With this bare in mind we need to think what could help.
Therefore what do you think can help? Confidence boost, a type of healing method. A hobby, looking into a part time learning course or working on ways to feel positive so quotes, kind words, goals or achievements? Maybe therapy even like CBT what look into behaviour and negative thoughts and overcoming them setting yourself targets.
So whatever it is there are things what can work. Sometimes we may or tried everything or we still continuing with same problem but if we are we need to look into why and what we can do to change this? Maybe there's something more deeper. You don't know.
It's always best to seek professional help if you ever need to day or night.
If you need more help and support were always here .
I hope this has helped.
