I'm feeling so lonely..?
I met my girlfriend at university and she is an international student, whereas I'm local to the area. We've been together nearly seven months now but I found unsafe problems with her accommodation, and a few months into the relationship, she came to live with me and my family..
Now I've flown out to her home with her for the next few months, and I was expecting it to be really good, when instead I just feel super lonely. Out of my girlfriend's family, only she can speak English. Her family so try to communicate with me, as do I with them but it's difficult.
It hasn't really hit me until last night though. Her dad works away a lot and he came home for the weekend this weekend, and last night I was sat around a dinner table with my girlfriend, her mum, dad, sister and then her cousin and his wife/girlfriend.
My girlfriend and her sister disappeared to talk and her dad was trying to get me involved and everything but her cousin just seemed to laugh at me for everything I did. I felt like an alien to this guy. I really love her dad for trying to teach me words and get involved. But then when we all sat to eat, it just hit me how I didn't have a clue what was going on. I don't work well with big groups anyway never mind when I felt so out of place.
Later on, I ended up collapsing to the floor with a nasty panic attack. I don't think I've ever had one as bad as that before, I couldn't see, I couldn't breathe and even my girlfriend seemed really impatient with me. And then apparently her mum thinks I was tipsy when the drink had nothing to do with it, I was feeling off it before I drank. Just everything got to me and hit me and I feel so low..
@JLL118 sorry you had a panic attack and did not get compassionate support. Many people hold stigmatized beliefs about anything they do not understand.
Another thing to consider is that some studies have found that hypoglycemia and panic attacks share similar characteristics. In my own experience, alcohol and me can make for one nasty feeling of being ready to pass out. I now try to avoid high carbs, sugar and alcohol and eat protein every 3-4 hours. Check with your doctor to see if you can be on this diet before trying.
