Am I actually depressed?
Hi guys,
So, I went to the doctor today (about switching my medication) and he was asking some questions that got me thinking, do I really have depression or do I just get sad easily? I'm not exactly sure what im looking for here, i guess just some validation maybe?
For me, it can be waking up and just being sad, but most of the time its something small happens or is said and then in my mind it blows up into giant sadness and just branches out into all kinds of other things that gets me down.
how does depression work for you guys?
You can have lots of different symptoms or very little symptoms. I'm not sure your age but I know it can be diagnosed in teens even without feelings of sadness. Research symptoms of depression that correlate with your age group (if you haven't already) and if you're still unsure, try an online diagnostic. Best choice would be to talk through it with your doctor. For me my depression is mostly self-doubt and lack of energy. Sorry for the ling post, but I hoped this helped you a little. 😊

You can try this test if you are unsure. For myself it is a constant haze of terrible thoughts and hopelessness. Everyone is different though.
If you really want to be sure than seeing a psychiatrist is your best option.
I agree with @Vints . Visiting a psychiatrist would be a great option and you have some symptoms of depression, but we can't guarantee you anything. We are not doctors. So yeah, visit a psychiatrist. They give medications, they give diagnosis. The best option.![]()
Labels aren'timportant, but I know that they can be nice to have. (Personally, I really like to have labels for everything.)
Myguessis that you aredepressed. If you get upset by lots of little things than chances are you have somelevel of sadness (whether you're aware of it or not).
Getting sad easily is totally a symptom of depression. You may want to try looking into atypical depression, as the name suggests people who have it tend to have slightly less stereotypical symptoms.
And don't listen to people here, you know yourself the best, and labeling yourself isn't great. Onlypsychiatrist can "label" you.
