Anyone who has tried light therapy to treat SAD (seasonal affective disorder)

Hello everyone,

Is there anyone who's tried light therapy to treat SAD? It's been about 2 and a half weeks since I started it, and I believe I'm doing it right: in the morning (and afternoon sometimes), at 10000 lux, light coming from the height higher than eyes, at least 30 minutes (yes, I'd done loads of googling and reading, also doctor's advice).

I might have to also say that I've got ADHD (combined type) and on treatment at the moment.

I was doing really well for the past few weeks, during the lovely sunny month of September, focussing on things really well and feeling great. And now, this week, it's been all cloudy grey gloomy for 3 days and now I think my SAD is back... Which probably will last until the end of the winter.

I was really hoping that light therapy would be effective and now I'm kind of disappointed (but going to carry on to see). I just wanted to know, if anyone knows about it and its effectiveness, is it maybe normal not to see the effect of light therapy at the beginning of the season and it'll start being effective and I'll feel better in a few days/weeks or something? Or not? But I did start it earlier as I read and was told...

Or I'll have to look for another solution with my doctor. If light therapy really doesn't help.

Did they also check if you have any nutritional deficiency?

@TortueDesBois

I would say yes and no — we did check vitamin D and iron levels and I've been taking supplements. Is there anything else I should know? I could ask my doctor next time I see her.

I have read that 10,000 lux for a short time may be too little. For more information, see: https://arbital.com/p/lumenators/

@RarelyCharlie

Thanks for your reply and the link. It'd be a bit tricky to do what's described here, but I'll try to just 'overdose' on it from tomorrow then, and see what happens. Thanks a lot again! :)
