Can depression be overcome or is it a life-long thing we have to learn to live with? (And why?)

Each individual is human and therefore equal. We are all entitled to express our feelings and opinions without fear of judgement or confrontation. 。・:*:・゚

This is personally my first 'thread' posting and I recently came to accept the fact that I think my depression is something I will have to learn to live with, even if it takes on new forms. Why? Because I feel it's an internal thing more than what surrounds me, or what I possess. Even if I were to change my physical circumstance, achieve my goals in life and have the things I need and want, it doesn't change what had already been inside of my own mind. Therefore it will always be a processed cycle of having to face things in my mind and learning how to accept and live with it. So is it really overcome if it's a cycle?

More than half a century ago a psychiatrist in Pennsylvania discovered a method of treatment that completely breaks the cycle. The method is now usually known as CBT, and it's widely available.

That was the good news. The bad news is that relatively few people have the skills to use CBT in a way that truly breaks the cycle, and many of the professionals who claim to practise CBT are either very bad at it or don't even try.

Here in the UK the result of this is very long waiting lists for treatment through our National Health Service (NHS), and very uncertain outcomes. You can get quicker and more reliable treatment outside the NHS if you are able to pay or have insurance.

But to return to your original question, yes, depression can be overcome.
