Movies for depression
Is there any good movies or tv shows that focuses on the main character being depressed ? It would be nice to have something to watch to relate to in these bad times..
A good movie on this topic would be 'it's kind of a funny story'. I've watched it and it tells the story of a clinically depressed teenager who gets a new start after he checks himself into an adult psychiatric ward. I don't thonk I've ever related so much to a movie.
As for tv shows, I recommend watching 'Skins' if you haven't done it yet. It follows the lives of a few teenagers that are struggling with depression and other life problems.
Stay strong and take care of you! >:D<
@SoulWithFeelings i saw its kind of a funny story yeah its nice but which skins are you talking about the uk one or the us one ?
The uk version :D i don't know how skins us is like
@SoulWithFeelings The pursuit of happiness is a good movie to watch
You're so right! I forgot about this one
@SoulWithFeelings
Chicken Soup for the Soul is great, too!
I really liked Seeking a friend for the end of the world. It doesn't really talk about him being depressed but he acts like and it's really funny. I also liked the Skeleton twins
I think the movie 'Submarine' is a good choice for spending a peaceful evening. Depression is not the main point in the movie, but you will feel it in both main characters. They will manage to cover it and they will be half happy together. Enjoy! :)

How about Up?
For me it's the 3 idiots of hindu.
I can definitely recommend Melancholia - it's one of the best capturing the state of depressed person.
Wristcutters: A Love Story is my other favourite.
Girl, Interrupted and The Hours are also great
There is also Little Miss Sunshine which is fun, but it's less explicit about this illness (I think, to be honest I watched it a long time ago ^^;)
There are also the ones where where depression is described as a metaphor, like: my all time favourite anime Haibane Renmei or Inside Out and Frozen ^^;
TW: Some of them can be triggering, so be cautious when deciding to watch them (it especially applies Wristcutters)!
Wristcutters was one I enjoyed a lot a few years ago. I would watch it when I was sad and by the end I would feel better. :D I even did a scene from it in one of my theater classes. I forget about it all the time now.

Extremely loud and Incredibly close
Inside Out
Here's what the movie is about.
A girl named Riley is born in Minnesota.
When Riley is 11, her family moves to San Francisco. Riley is disappointed by their lifeless new home, and is further discouraged when the moving van with all their belongings gets lost.
Believing that going back to Minnesota will make her happy again, Riley decides to run away. She steals a credit card out of her mom's purse. Then she boards a bus to Minnesota. She then realizes that she will be happier when she is living in San Francisco.
Riley arrives home and bursts into tears, confessing to her parents that she misses her old life in Minnesota. A year later, Riley is adapting to her new home, as her emotions now work together to help her lead a more emotionally complex life.
@RainbowButterflyGirl123 This movie is outstanding. It holds up for its own with fantastic storytelling, casting, and the visuals are phenomenal.
As the movie I studied for my final project in Film Studies and Communications technology, this movie is amazing.
As my favorite movie ever for the message it sends and the sheer awesomeness and uplifting side of it, I've got to say it's definitely worth watching because it will take you on an emotional rollercoaster. It's beautiful, and it reminded me of the beauty of family.
This movie covers a lot of serious issues so if you're looking for a movie that will make you think, this is one of those movies to watch. If you just want to have some fun watching a movie, this is the one for you. I seriously feel like everyone should watch this movie.
@RainbowButterflyGirl123 Yes! Inside out is so good as it gives you a way of saying difficult things, like if you feel like something important that used to make you happy isn't making you happy any more you could relate it to the movie and say that the island for that thing has been destroyed.
