Recurrent depressive disorder
Hi I'm findng it excruciating to reach out to anyone as they do not seem to understand and I seem Incapable of explaining. The only solace I'm getting is reading authors who have been through severe clinical depression.
However I still feel the odd one out as often the book ends with recovery or people being more able to deal with relapses after the first times.
I feel its the opposite. The more I go through various episodes the less interest I have in making all efforts to 'getting better' and the less skills I seem to be able to use. It's like a degeneration of the self becoming more incompetent each time.
Is there any listener here who has gone through repeated episodes and can understand?
I cannot take any of the usual positive thinking which feels toxic or more self help steps.
@anonyLemon4233 It's possible to filter our Browse Listeners page for listeners who have lived experience of depression (though not necessarily recurrent).
I agree with you that the kind of serious recurrent depressive episodes you suffer from are not likely to be helped by positive thinking or self help. I've read that there are some specialized treatments available for depression, when the usual medications and therapies are not working, and I wonder whether you have a psychiatrist and a psychotherapist you can discuss the options with.

Thank you for the feedback.
Am still experimenting with the app and discovered the filters.
As to psych etc yes I see both and am awaiting yet another medication to try out on top of what I take daily.. But without much hope of any longlasting change.
I'd really have wished to look into some alternative therapies being trialled but seems impossible where I live. And I wouldnt be supported by my doc even if they were..
I did some research on Recurrent Depression Disorder.. it seems that many articles refer to Psychotherapy/CBT + Medication as treatment options.. Medication may take up to 25 weeks to see any changes.. Although I have not been diagnosed with this Disorder before, I'm glad that you've continued to seek options to get better. Don't give up even when you feel there have not been any changes, continue to seek for options and give yourself time to heal and recover~

Thanks Jaetuk. Am not really looking into finding info as such as I've been reading and trying different therapies and meds for many years but it always comes back.
I guess I felt more like talking to someone who has had various relapses and understands how tiring it is. And how it leaves you feeling less and less each time
